Same here. I don't want an Xbox because of their original plans for the system, they were so quick to fix them but what about 5 years later when attitudes towards always-on DRM have lessened, will they be implemented then? I just don't trust them, and I owned an original Xbox and 360 too.

Nintendo will be fine. They weathered the Gamecube and that was a much bigger flop (it succeeded a flop too, whereas the Wii U follows the insanely successful Wii), and the partner handheld device (GBA) wasn't as successful as the GB or DS lines.

Usual Apple fan comments are funny with them and could be easily fixed by them going against their fanaticism and buying a handheld device that isn't made by Apple.

My thought exactly, i'm also thinking that MS will bring back the DRM stuff they removed further down the road when people are tied to the system due to allot of investment.

I just hope Nintendo dont drop the hardware part for their consoles, i almost cried when Sega did that after Dreamcast (which i still own and love) and Nintendo is the last gaming company from my childhood so i'm a bit sentimental about it :)

No chance of that. Nintendo are unique, and have been since 80's, of creating hardware for software. They design games and build controllers or systems around that rather than simply making software for what's standard at the time.
Just yesterday Nintendo announced an adapter so you can use their classic Gamecube controllers on the Wii U - because it works so well with Smash Bros. 2 generations later and there's still no controller that works as well as that for that particular game. And I like them for that! Most of the time it works for them but there are a few misses (Virtual Boy, Wii U).

Whereas Sega were just software developers and didn't deviate too much on the hardware front (they're just arcade developers essentially).

Personally i think their biggest flop was Wii (after Virtual Boy ofc). Sure it sold allot of units but at that point they drop the boll and lost many hardcore gamers in favor of casual gamers (parents, old people, young crowd). These people are the worst as they are to cheap to buy many games or even upgrade to new consoles. And they did not even had HD support which is the reason i hated Wii myself, i played a handful of good games at the start but once PS3 and X360 got so many AAA games i did not bother using the Wii and just sold it. I know many say graphic isnt everything but when you have to much to choose from then i want great gameplay + great looking game so why settle with less. These days there are tons and tons of great games and Nintendo has not yet realized this fact which is why they are in this mess to begin with.
BTW i love the GameCube controller and was hoping for a wireless version of it, having the cored is just turn off for me ( i read people want cord for less delay but seriously i have never noticed a delay with my controllers that are wireless).
Not sure why you think Sega was not good making hardware, in my view they were way better then Nintendo and they almost always had the better hardware but they had a bit bad timing and bad luck. Dreamcast was just a superior hardware but sadly it did not have CD/DVD as PS2 did and came out at a higher cost which lead Sega to drop the hardware. Also remember Gamegear? so much better then anything for its time. So i dont thing it is impossible for Nintendo to go the same route as Sega has done but since Nintendo still has good reserves they need to do some radical changes that appeal to the masses and not only me and you who are loyalists :)

Some interesting read :D

Not at all. Nintendo's biggest crowd is the core base that buys it for the Nintendo IPs. All the Wii did was add the casual crowd. It was business as usual for them: limited 3rd party support, 3rd party support providing casual/lighter games.
Just look at the libraries on the N64, GC, Wii.

Then you missed out! The Wii had one of the best critically rated games last gen - Mario Galaxy 1 & 2. Which did look good. It wasn't in HD sure but it looked incredible.

Nintendo hardware was faster for the most part, and included better sound chips.

GG was powerful but cheaply made. They're all failing now due to bad capacitors, whereas even launch Gameboys are still going.

As i said it did add new people but at the same time made many old gamers disappointed and forced them into new systems.

Not really i bough all thoese games cheap now so i will play them when i get the time, atleast there is something good with the WiiU being backward compatible :D
On special cases like these games yes i have to agree that the gameplay is a bigger factor and Nintendo knows how to make the games look amazing on their system.

Not going into console war discussion but Dreamcast was the best hardware at the time it came out. GC came out like 3 years after so ofc it would be better (not sure if it was even).
usually Nintendo came out later just to be able to add something more. Basically Sega drove the whole new console era and we should be thanking them for this. Either way both companies were awesome and added allot to the industry. I always bought all the systems from both companies as well.

I loved my GC, still have it and used it allot. That is my favorite next to N64 actually. Controller and design and colors were amazing. I wish Nintendo could do more things like that instead of making tablets and stuff that don't make sense (to me anyway).

TO be honest the new 3DS sort of sucks in quality, i had to change 3 of them to get one that was ok. The build is flimsy with the top screen and the bottom part is badly put into place. One of the ones i exchanged was so bad that it almost cut through my had when i held it. The top screen is just another long discussion. Nintendo make people believe its part of a design but its just crap talk, on almost 80% of the units its just badly assembled and kids dont care about that. I never had any device that had a loose screen dangling like the 3DS. Its shameful how badly its made.

I was talking about GG ;)
