what? you put it in a no contract iphone, when you open the iphone 3gs for the first time and try to turn it on, was it already activated? or did you have to plug in a sim card that was already on contract to activate the phone?

Its not pre-activated. Have to either sign up with AT&T via iTunes or put in a sim from another AT&T phone and then sync it with iTunes, which adds the data plan to that account.

I did the following. Unwrapped 3GS, swapped in PrePaid iPhone SIM, connected to iTunes, activated. I was good to go. :) That was it.

I had a gen 1 Pre paid iPhone go phone. I used the same SIM and put it in a no contract 3GS. I know I'll need a mini SIM for the iPhone 4.. I'll ask if they will transfer my account to a mini SIM. if not, I'll cut it down to fit like I've see people trim it for the iPads.

I honestly think ATT will give me a hard time if I ask them to transfer my account to a mini SIM so I think I'm going to have to go the trim route.

Yes....please read over the upgrade guide in my sig.

Sorry I don't fully understand the guide the message I get is "you may select equipment at our full retail price. An upgrade is available on 2/20/2011.". Does this mean I have to buy the $599 or am I eligible for a early upgrAde getting the iPhone for $399? Sorry if I'm asking what has already been answered but I did search.

"Full retail price" sounds like the $599 and $699 price.

can i put in my friend's sim card who has a contract with att to activate the no contract phone?
will it work?

Anyone know if a deposit is required if you pay the no contract price? Last time I checked I had to pay a $250 deposit since I have no credit history, so I ended up not buyin' one. If a no contract price doesn't require any deposit, I'm game. Thanks in advance.

If you already have a line, then there is no deposit. But just to go in and buy one without a contract, ATT will still run your credit. So it all depends on your credit

Yes, that should do exactly what you want. Your friend will need to get a micro-sim from AT&T first.

I know that's what I was thinking I sure hope not that's why I'm confused it sounds like on the press release I'm eligible but that message sure brings no hope.

What about the press release made you think you were eligible? If your upgrade fell in 2010, yes. But your upgrade falls in 2011, so no.

12. My upgrade date, told to me by AT&T, is XX/XX/XXXX, can I qualify for an upgrade? AT&T has given its customers a special upgrade option to those that are eligible for up to six months from the launch date of June 24. These customers are automatically bumped up and are given the option to upgrade at the 199/299 price. Those that are not eligible are able to purchase iPhone 4 at the early upgrade price of 399/499.

This had me confused.

You're right, based on this it looks like you would automatically get the early upgrade pricing. I hadn't read this portion of the PR.

I copied that from the PR release. I'm confused also.

@Kawjumper...what was the exact message you got when dialing *639#?

What I don't get is when I purchased an Iphone 3gs for me and my wife the day it came out my line is eligible for an upgrade while she has to wait till 2/20/2011??? We have a family plan and just ticked off at why this is happening. Anyone else having this issue like I am?

Yes! My husband and I upgraded our phones from the 2G to the 3GS on the same day and my line is eligible while his shows eligibility on 2/22/11. WTH? He's pissed. LOL

What are the facts about new iphone4(purchasing price, contract, early termination)etc.

It would still apply because there are those that want to cancel their old line, pay the ETF, and buy the new phone at a subsidized price of 199/299 by adding a new line

I have heard alot about different prices of new iphone 4,but dont know whats actuaully true or just speculation.I am looking to buy a iphone 4 but im not able to get it for a discount price, meaning i dont qualify for a upgrade even with their ext. on the time to upgrade.Does you know anything about the early termination fee i do know that they increased it from 199 to 375 i believe.Am trying to buy new phone as cheap as possible which im sure everybody is Any info would be appreciated!!!!

Please look through our upgrade guide. It is constantly being updated as we learn more.

ETF for lines opened before June 1st is only $175 and most likely it will be pro-rated $5/month. You should call AT&T to see what your current ETF is. But if you cancel you will not be able to sign for a new line for 90 days.

Your best bet is to add a line for the new phone. Then get AT&T to swap your number to the new contract, then cancel the original contract and pay the ETF. This way you keep your number and get the fully subsidized price.

Chances are you pay over or close to $100/month on your line whilst your spouse pays substantially less. Actually, unless she's on some sort of international data plan, has unlimited txt + data and, say, a subscription to ATT navigator, it'd be hard to spend +100/month on a secondary line without paying full for voice.

This is happening to almost everyone on the forum with multiple lines. One person (primary number) is ponying up the additional cash for voice and as such is 'rewarded' with the early upgrade whilst the other individuals have to wait.

From what I've read, if you're on a family plan they only bumped up 1 phone on the account for the early upgrade.

My point was you could terminate for $175 then start a new account and get the iPhone 4 for $299 instead of the no commitment price of $599.

And I think the upgrade price with a contract is $399.

when you terminate early...AT&T puts you in time out for 60 days..so this is not a good idea
