This thread really should have stopped as soon as the first person said that ear buds aren't included. sigh.

Says who? Can you provide any reason for what you're saying?
I don't really see what damage have you received from this thread to make you post something useless like that. You're free to change page, but I don't understand why would someone think of stopping others discussing about something.

Because his question was answered in post 2. The rest of the thread is a bunch of people being smart a**es going on about what you can listen to music on among other unrelated things. The discussion isn't about whether they are or arent included in the box. I didnt realize your corn flakes came into contact with urine over my post.

I don't see smart a**es, I see users discussing about something quite actual with Apple in an Apple-related community.
What I see, instead, is a random poster, coming out from the woods without contributing to anything but acting like a smart a**, who doesn't like others discussing.
You know, you're free to skip any post and thread you want.

The primary purpose of these forums is not only to speculate or seek advice, but to generate user discussion. People can talk/argue about anything, including Teletubbies, as long as it's under an appropriate section. No offense, but if a particular topic doesn't peek your interest, please resist the urge to be a smart a**, and stay out of the thread.

Indeed, that doesn't add up.

As I said, it's all very subjective.
If I have an iPad to be able to listen to music and watch movies on it, it's obvious that I consider earphones to be needed.
I can use an iPod (touch) to surf the web, game and access my cloud without even thinking of listening to music (indeed, that's what I do). I can, too, use my phone without any headset. Most of those who need them have their own quality ones, instead of those horrible Apple's ones.
A charger, obviously, is of primary importance, as without it my product would cease to function. Earphones are accessories, so that's really off topic.
What you state about cables is off topic too, as external accessories using I/O are expected to come with their own cables.

I have never touched my iPod/iPhone earphones. I'd need other accessories, such as a decent case, for example.
If Apple added those earphones to the iPad package, I'm sure you'd totally agree with that, coming up with a poor supported argument, again. But that's just my impression.

My central point is that products should only expected to include accessories directly related, and essential to, their primary function. That's not to say that some users won't put emphasis on the device's secondary functions but to ask the manufacturer to include accessories for every use case, beyond the essential is a bit too much.

I understand what you're saying, but these days you can't apply that logic anymore, as iPods, iPhones, iPads and computers in general offer an entire range of possibilities.
I'm not saying including earphones with iPods and iPhones is wrong, but that everyone's use of a product legitimates their own needs. An iPad is a media consumption device, people want bigger storage because they want to store their movies and music on it. As a logical consequence, it'd be more than justified adding even basic earphones.
That applies to laptops too. With desktops you usually use their bigger sound systems or have an external one hooked up, but with laptops, on the go, earphones make a lot of sense. Again, just because Apple isn't doing it, doesn't mean it's a bad idea.

earbuds is **** anyways, get your self a Koss Porta Pro, awesome sounding headphones seriously! and it doesn't cost an arm & leg :p

Two way street.

I miss those days when Apple products came with a ton of stuff. Well not a ton. iPods had a case, firewire and usb cables. Macs came with a firewire cables and DVD-R to use. Oh and a nice manual.. but the manual is better as a PDF. But dang case and extra cables :(

I think the iPad should have came with atleast one more cable or ear buds.. cause you're paying just as much as an iPhone or PC and twice as much as a iPad. The other I honestly looked inside my box just to see if I missed something. You don't get a cleaning cloth either.

 WE WERE ROBBED !!!

I don't know about that. Often I use my iPad just for listening to music with my earbuds connected, and it does a fine job in doing that. So it is also a music player, among other things it does. So one could argue it deserved to have basic earbuds included with it.
I watch YouTube videos on my desktop PC and want to listen music on this PC as well. Should a headphone be included with the PC?

My brains hurt.

iLuv is much worse than the default Apple earbuds.

The Klipsch are supposed to be balanced. Not like the Beats (which are junk) which are basically junk earphones with an EQ for increased bass. Klipsch and higher end audio equipment tend to go for a fully balanced audio output and that makes some types of music sound bad on the bottom end but that is the way the artist/studio intended it to be.

To the OP, the iPad never included earbuds. Not the original iPad or iPad 2 either. For an iPod, bundling earbuds helps you get started with listening to music. Everything you need to listen to music with an iPod is already included minus the computer and actual music content. For an iPhone, it's also an iPod and that was one of the biggest features. It was first marketed as an iPod, a phone and Internet device. As for an iPad, it's big enough that most people don't carry it around in their pocket as an iPod-device.

It's a matter of opinion, of course, but I bought a pair of iLuvs for $10 on Amazon, and when listening to them and then listening to the bundled iPhone buds, the bundled ones sound like I'm listening to analog AM radio. There's absolutely no contest--the iLuvs sound better.

Seriously, from an audio quality standpoint with the "best" being 100% accurate audio reproduction, iLuv earphones are under 3. Most earphones under $30 are under 4-5 on that audio quality scale. Apple is around 5-6. It's like displays, some people think TN panels are better, some think IPS is better, some think AMOLED is better (in fact, it's the worst) but by definition, a display is to display images. If one display displays images with false colors, that's not good. For earphones, by definition, they are supposed to produce sounds. The more accurate the output, the better it is. I'm sure some people PREFER to have more bass than intendedn or higher highs than intended. That is why we invented something called an equalizer.

I can argue that anything and everything is a matter of opinion. Science, religion, intelligence, etc. But most of us agree that usually being more accurate is better than not.

All I know is this--my iLuvs have such good bass, I had to turn the bass boost off on the iPhone. Maybe I got a crappy pair of Apple buds or something, but I did compare to some other ones at home with the same result. I'm not sure how you can tell me I'm wrong when you haven't listened to the ones I have vs. the Apple ones.

For the record, the above quote attributed to me, is not my quote. The above quote was a response to my initial post.

So if I don't listen to your particular set of iLuvs then I can't judge them? I have listened to most of the ones $30 and below from this link.

It's all about being minimalistic - If iPads were shipped with 'a ton of other stuff' the box would be bigger and heavier, therefore the carbon footprint of the product would be higher.

Huh? No it wouldn't. t don't that as being a problem because its already been done. The iPad box is the same height as my MBP charger/accessories box. There is a lot of unused space in the iPad box. A cleaning cloth would not alter the weight of the box, nor it would take up any space. Same with earbuds... The cloths that came with my older iPods and MBP are really nice. These materials have nothing to do with carbon footprint. lol

Again WE WERE ROBBED !!

Yeah, they do. Accessories still have to be manufactured, and they still have to be shipped to wherever it is the iDevices/Macs are boxed.
