I had this same problem.

I restored from backup from my old 3G running 4.0 and face-time didn't exist on my phone.

I went back and reset to factory settings and "set up as new iPhone" and everything works fine. This was easy for me as I use google sync.

I went back to restoring from my 3G and face-time again was gone.

Repeat.

I did that on my most recent restore. Still nada. I guess I'll try it again. I used Mac Address Book to sync my contacts and left everything fresh otherwise. Still got nothing.

I can say that no one really wants to Face this time with his/her iPhone!

I feel sorry for you

Didn't read the whole post and I figure you know this already but you're on WIFI and the Other person is on WIFI too, right?

Could firewalls be an issue?

I doubt it. My firewall settings are pretty lax plus I've got all UPnP and NAT enabled. Logic should say that it will work provided all those things work properly. Not like bandwidth is an issue either...I'm on a 35mbit synchronous fios connection.

Yep, my friend that I've been trying to connect with primarily is also an IT guy. It works fine for him and other friends. I'm the only one that seems to have this problem. :(

"Turn off restrictions: Choose General > Restrictions, then enter the passcode. Tap Disable Restrictions, then reenter the passcode.
If you forget your passcode, you must restore your iPhone software from iTunes. See “Updating and Restoring iPhone Software” on page 229."

Apple posted a user guide for IPhone 4,
Try looking in there?

http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/iPhone_iOS4_User_Guide.pdf

I gave it a run through, but couldn't find anything you haven't already done, except for restrictions?

Are the people you are trying to connect to behind a firewall at their jobs? Maybe? Some wifis are pretty strict if they are a business.

I have no idea, just guessing on my part. Hope you get it figured out. :)

My IT buddy works from a home office and he's able to connect with other people. It's a problem on my actual phone. I'm trying a fresh restore with a fresh firmware download to see if that does the trick. Will report back.

Alright, I humbly apologize to the OP and admit I was very wrong.

That said, I'd try restoring it as a new phone. Seems that FaceTime has been left out in some sort of glitch.

Question: When you go a contact's page, does it show FaceTime as an option next to text message and above add to favorites?

OP, you showed the WRONG screen.

Go to Contacts on wifi. FaceTime should be there.

Trust me, it ain't working. I'm in the middle of a restore, but downloading this firmware is taking it's sweet time (guessing I'm probably not the only person downloading it ;)). It wasn't in contacts either.

These are what should be showing for those who are curious.

Well, my activation got bungled and I have to grab another micro-SIM card from an AT&T store. I'm running on Wi-Fi on my iPhone 4, but since it doesn't have a number to associate with, I can't make any FaceTime calls yet... :(

Has everyone figured out that some people need to go to settings> phone> and toggle FaceTime on?

Finally got it working after a complete reload of the firmware (new download, importing no backup data). Very strange that my old backup would screw with it so much. Oh well...
