From Verge: "When I complained that I just want to import RAW directly to Lightroom CC
and skip the camera roll, Apple pointed to a Siri Shortcut that automatically deletes photos
from the camera roll after import to Lightroom. So."

Are you serious? The PS presentation was great, I was just waiting for "save" action.
A 3GB file, where is it stored? In the cloud? Please, please show me "save file" LOL

"I also saw it connect to a camera, which automatically popped open the camera roll import screen,
but we’ve confirmed that it will not support external storage over USB-C."

What a joke this whole thing has become. iPad "Pro" without any option to organize your files
or connect a drive. How many times did Cook bring "it's the best laptop" thing?

I feel your frustration. The key indicator that Apple wasn't going to do anything differently was when they released the Files.app. It was nothing more than their version of Documents by Readdle. The lack of a universally accessible file system is inherent in the design ethos of iOS and that is not going to change. The same holds true for support for mice/pointing devices, and wide support for peripherals via the USB-C port.

It is helpful to acknowledge reality for what it is. And the reality is that Apple is NOT going to advance iOS to be a proper replacement/alternative to macOS. It is what it is.

iOS-based devices have their place within a gadget toolkit but they're not going to be a complete replacement for a traditional notebook (no matter what Apple execs say).

No file system - don't call it a "computer"

I agree 100%.
As a content creator and not just a consumer — I need to organise my files. That's how I roll, that's my workflow.
Without that ability iPad is dead to me as a creative tool.

I just don't get why Adobe is wasting their time on "real" PS then? What's the point?
iOS is being dumbed down every release.
Adobe are desperate. They are losing ground to smaller companies who are offering great products with none of the Adobe bloat and bizarre subscription models.
So… iOS is where they can sense growth and a pretense of being relevant.

This is why it's not going to be realistic to do professional programming/development entirely on iPad either.

Even if Apple ported Xcode to iOS, so much of real world development is sitting in the unix terminal wrangling all sorts of itty bitty scripts and 3rd party commands that operate on the filesystem. They can't just pretend that aspect of development doesn't exist by wishing hard enough.

I'm not going to complain. I just vote with my dollars and buy the products that best suit my needs. But I will say that while Apple adds specs and features year after year, the iPad Pro will never be a suitable laptop replacement for me or be worth the price of a mid to high-end ultrabook while it still runs a mobile OS that was originally designed for a phone and an iPod.

I'm confused. I just assumed the new PS app will have a folder in the 'on my iPad' section of the Files app. Other photo apps like Affinity allow you to import files via the Files app. Do we know this is going to be an issue?

New format - "cloud psd". I guess it will detect changes only, so no need to save, sorry upload, 3GB.
But it's still a cloud. So, no thanks, but thanks.

Wait for people to come here to tell you why iPad is a real computer because they can run Photoshop and few apps that they are using on daily basis.
"It does everything I need, therefore it's suitable for everyone". A variation on "I don't need this feature, therefore nobody needs it". I see that far too often on these forums :(

Wen I heard the USB-C port was added I finally thought that Apple made the laptop (or near) replacement. I am not an artist, but an attorney that has used an iPad Pro since it was first released. My Gen 1 still works as well as it did three yearas ago. I am a photography enthusiast, keep Trial notes and have all my files in the loud or loaded onto the iPad Pro as needed. Have the ability to connect a thumb drive or a printer that doesn’t Air Print would be key. The lack of a file system made me purchase a MacBook Pro last February. I love the machine, although they are not as cutting edge as the MacBook Pros of 2007. Maybe Apple was hungrier then. Leopard was the operating system that made me go back to the Mac and switch my offices exclusively to Mac. The iPad Pro an IPad has camera connection kits that would not let you manipulate photos on the card, but upload them. You could only upload photos and nothing else, as I recall. The excitement over connecting a camera is not new. I don’t know why expanded storage is not a feature as it is something, especially in the pro market, in such high demand. That would really put the Surface in its place. My fear is that the “Pro” is not so pro in these devices any more and just means you will pay a premium for non pro features. With that’s said, my new iPad Pro, Apple Pencil 2, and Smart Keyboard Folio is gonna cost me $1,800.00 with tax.

Bring OSX as an option to the iPad Pro line and optimize it. Maybe a Bootcamp situation so you can dual boot to one or the other. The hardware is more than sufficient.

I wish but I'm not gonna hold my breath.

The bootcamp bit is impossible. Microsoft would have to write a new version of Windows to run on Apples A series chips, which is never gonna happen. I recall a few years ago that Apple has cooked up an internal version of OSX that runs on their A series chips, but that is more likely a proof of concept for Macs ditching intel than it is an indication they are thinking to bring OSX to the iPad line.

I agree 100%. Sometimes I think Tim Cook has never used a real computer the way he speaks. Mouse and files! Now THAT's a real computer!

Remember when Apple (and Apple fanboys) were like, "no one wants a touchscreen laptop! It's awkward and tiring to reach out and touch the screen in order to navigate!"

Now it’s, "use our touchscreen tablet with no track pad or mouse support as a laptop!"

Just give me the option to put media on the device without having to use iTunes. Needing iTunes to sync video to iOS devices or add music to iCloud music library sucks. Oh and while they’re at it how about allowing users to edit metadata in Apple Music? Why is that so difficult?

Isn’t it funny how the iPad is supposed to be a “computer” but the simplest way to manage content on it is by connecting to a real computer and using a desktop application?

Considering how much abstraction from hardware a "real" file system (in the 1980s sense many people seem to have here) has, and how antiquated it really in tying assets to hardware.
You can get apps like "Documents" that will get most of the way there (especially with a NAS and very fast network) if any of you are that depressed about it.

Got the feeling, that with USB-C, connecting directly to external drives is coming within a year anyway; so hang in there poor * deprived * individuals Santa will come your way...

There are plenty of third party apps to put files on the device, like "Documents" (which is free), you can map local drives, network drives, create folders and copy in and out of Apple folders (like Music and Photos).
