I think its really strange for Apple to limit Mac Pro owners in using Front Row, even though its target is professionals, that hasn't stopped them from building Front Row into the MacBook Pro.

I'm still hoping they release a new iSight with built in IR.

Or perhaps they have a larger plan in the works, which incorporates making the iPod Touch and/or iPhone the ultimate universal media remote.

Either way, I want Front Row! I mean, damn! For how much us Mac Pro users paid, we should get the ultimate Mac, with all the bells and whistles, no exceptions.

FRONT ROW WILL WORK!!!!! ... how many times...

It's an app in the /Applications folder.
It's just that you can't use an Apple Remote. C'est tout.

Even works on G4's G5's etc...

Yes, well clearly, but is it possible that it does it not install Front Row because no IR is detected?
Sounds like this is the case. I mean, read this:
The recent Front Row update wouldn't install on my iMac G4 (unsurprisingly) resulting in an error: "This software update requires a Macintosh with a built-in infrared (IR) receiver running Mac OS X 10.4.5 or later." I set out to change that...

I mean, Telekinesis seems to turn my iPhone into an IR remote (by way of WiFi simulation).

:( unfortunately as expected... Mac Pro running Leopard will not run FrontRow... not even using a keyboard or mouse click...

see http://www.apple.com/uk/macosx/techspecs/

will Apple ever come up with a solution to get IR built into Mac Pro or Cinema Display?

Mac Pro is a Pro machine... but it wouldn't harm having FrontRow running once a while right?

Agreed, always thought this was kinda dumb..

A few years ago, I bought a PowerMac G5 Dual 2.3. The thing was a beast at the time.. 2.5gb Ram, 500gb HD... Cost me nearly £2000 without a monitor.

Then a few weeks later, Apple brought out the Updated iMacs (Still G5) with iSight along with FrontRow and Photobooth and these 2 Apps would were not available (even for purchase).

Nice way to treat your customers Apple! Surely it wouldnt be difficult to put out a USB IR Receiver?? the remotes are already available. I find it annoying because i always thought FrontRow was one of those "amazing" effects you could use to convince your PC friends to consider switching.

Unfortunately, the only way for us to use them at the time was illegally.

In response to my previous post.

This is not a 'Hack' I did to the OS in order to trick Front Row into operating.

In OS X 10.5 Leopard Front Row is now an Application in the Applications Folder.

Once you get Leopard on your machine it's as easy as clicking on it in the Application 'Stack'

BTW it's controlled with the keyboard.

Yep, I noticed it in there after installing Leopard and it works just fine on my Mac Pro.

i prefer a native support by Apple... not a hack...
I've tried to do this once... installing some Application and edit the plist file... it worked fine for a while then it suddenly stopped working after a security update from Apple... since then I didn't bother to redo th hack just to get FrontRow

I was personally looking forward to FrontRow in leopard for Mac Pro users... at least at a click of a mouse on the application icon in the dock or press Esc-Command... but it seems that Apple is not going to let the Pros have some FrontRow entertainment unless we buy a new piece of expensive Apple equipment.

I know this is old, but Front Row is in Leopard. It's running on my iMac G5 (non-iSight).
