what an overly dramatic confused statement
You have to consider who's making that statement.

The iPhone 4 is already dated relative to other phones on the market. To have a phone on the market for 18 months without an update is insane.
Exactly. That's the main reason in my mind this rumour holds any weight.
im the opposite, this would be devastating to me as my contract runs out June this year......
why would they do this? I would have thought the majority of people would be looking at upgrading in June due to the reasoning that more iPhone's are sold in June?
hope to god this isnt true.
Contrary to what may most competitors seems to believe, apple customers don't come back for the hardware but rather the amazing software.
I agree. If theres no iPhone in 2011, that mean Android wins the smartphone market for the year. Apple would also lose many of the customers to Android whose contracts are up in the summer and they would be locked into 2 year deals with their droids meaning no iPhone in 2012 for them either.
A 'perfect' devices with a bad antenna design? Sorry, but I wouldn't touch the iPhone 4 because of its antenna design flaws and won't get an iPhone until Apple corrects that. Hardly perfect. Perfect for YOU maybe..
Not cool. Coming from an iPhone 3GS, I seriously don't want to wait.
You have to consider who's making that statement.
Most phone consumers do not get a new phone on the day their contracts expire. That's yet another geek misconception about how the world works.
I'd be shocked if Apple loses "many" of their customers to Android in 2011. Why on earth would they switch when they already have an iPhone that they love?
Surely this just means the iPhone released in June will simply be like the iPhone 3G to 3GS transition. Same form factor, upgraded internals, etc Hard to imagine there won't be an iPhone with an A5 this year.
My 2-year contract finishes next month and my 3G is almost inoperative. No way I want to buy into the antenna problems with a 4. Glad you're happy though.
