I suspect the actual version number will probably still be 19 or something. That will then lead to an insane level of confusion from the entire developer and support community trying to work out the difference between the marketing label and the actual version number.

Microsoft are good at this. What version of windows are you using? Windows 11? No Windows 11 24H2! Oh hang on, no it's actually Windows 10.0.26100. Yes Windows 10. But no it's Windows 11 too. Urgh.

it’s happening!! dropping the numbers from the iPhones too, hopefully???? oh lord please let it be true 🙏🏻

I get it. It all makes sense. However - shouldn't IOS be renamed IOS 25/26 for obvious reasons?

A bit like the football season here in the UK. When the football season starts again in August, we call it the 25/26 season!

Does anyone else like salad cream on their chips (fries)?
Also, why I'm here. Why is Greenland icy, and Iceland green?

Ciao........................

So they had that whole Apple Car project spinning wheels and eating money for years, and the only result is to change versioning scheme to vehicular years?

I came here for the comments. Mods don't send me messages telling me my post is frivolous. Rumors are frivolous. Life is frivolous.

OS 26? Shouldn’t it be OS 25, since they’re announcing it at WWDC 2025 and releasing it in 2025?
Imagine if they’re doing this just so they can call the next iPhone ‘iPhone 26’ and stay one number ahead of Samsung 😂

I’m curious if you ever read the article and properly notice things in the world that surrounds you 😂

So the iPhone and iOS come out in September, and are only ‘current’ for three months, because when the clock strikes 1, it’s last years gear, and it will be last years gear for 9 months; longer than it will have been ‘current’. I am not a fan of that.

But they really should do this with the iPhone, iPad, etc.

iPhone (2026), iPhone Pro (2026), and so on…

Doubt it. Unlike Mac, iPhone is still somewhat of a status symbol (despite Android having more expensive offerings), so the version is quite important to some and a 4-digit number doesn't really roll off the tongue as easily. "Is that the new iPhone 17 Pro?" as opposed to "Is that the new iPhone Pro 2026?"

And come to think of it, even Mac has kinda done away with the year thing and now it comes down to the chip, "I'm looking to get MacBook Air M4" instead of "I'm looking to get MacBook Air (2025)".

Apple customers are by far the most conservative customers I’ve seen, and that’s actually kind of ironic.
