Can someone educated here please help me correct my wife? She thinks iphone 10 was just released because she sees an "X" and is thinking Roman numeral. iphone 8 YES, I phone 8 Plus Yes, and I phone X Yes, but this X designation does not mean Apple has an iphone 10 in line up with the new Iphone 8 models. Please correct her so I can win my free meal this Friday:)

Uhhh, it is the iPhone 10. It's not referred to as the iPhone "ex", it's referred to as the iPhone "ten".

No No No. Your all wrong. Apple would never be so stupid to release iphone 10 to compete with new release iphone 8. The notion of even thinking such a thing is absurd. It's "X" as in "the X Men or X box. Neither of which mean the number 10. Looks like all of you we're fooled just like her:)

She's right actually, X is the Roman numeral for 10. So it's pronounced iPhone Ten. Apple has done this before, for example OS X was the name for the OS on the Mac, really pronounced OS Ten.

Edit: If you still doubt it, watch today's keynote. Clearly pronounced as iPhone Ten.

Yes - you can review today's announcement video, if you like, but the iPhone X was pronounced very clearly as "iPhone Ten", so X is, in fact, Ten.

I would expect the replacement for the iPhone 8 to be an iPhone 9.
And, the new model is not an iPhone 10. The name is iPhone X, pronounced "iPhone Ten", so iPhone 9, IMHO, could still be used by the model sold to the "common folk"

Hard to guess where Apple will go with the naming convention now :D

Then why buy the iphone 9 in two years when it's released? What kind of gorilla marketing is that?
Can't tell if you mean gorilla or guerrilla? Anyway I think that would be next year if anything. S models seem to be over.

They are two steps ahead. No need. Apple buyers still clueless the OLED is from Samsung's pile of hand me downs
Need has nothing to do with it. Koreans are all about one upsmanship. Stay tuned, I bet they skip a number or two.

And no, the screens and chips and any other components Apple buys from Samsung are not hand me downs. Sales to Apple represent a big profit center for Samsung. Apple specs out and integrates these components, not accepting inferior to spec parts.

Marketing, the BS hype we hear from both side will continue. But have no doubt that Samsung wants to hang onto component sales to Apple.

There won't be an iPhone 9. The 8 is the final generation of that form factor.

The iPhone X is the new form factor. X, 11, 12, etc.
