No iPhone 8 but IPhone 7S

Following history yes, maybe iPhone 7S is the logical next step. However, their sales has been going down and if they don't do a major refresh, they are just going to fall way too behind. The Samsung S8 is very promising and they are losing the Chinese market which is like 40% of all their iPhone sales.

Didn't they just have a great quarter earnings report, and also overtook Samsung to be at the top of some mobile related sales?
 
In actuality, there will be a 7S AND an 8 this year. The 7S will have a new colour and a couple of other bits. The 8 will be the expensive one ;)

The 7S will obviously be the continuation from the 7, and the 8 will be the glass bodied bezel-less next generation phone.

The reason for this is because the 7 was meant to be the glass bodied bezel-less next generation phone last year, however if they didn't make it in time they would fall back on a 6/6S type design and wait another year. And thats exactly what happened.

So, this year the 7S will be a new option for people who can't afford (or don't need) the iPhone 8.

If this year we'll get an 7s and 8, I wonder what will be next year. 8s and..? Something doesn't match :) or maybe we'll have series 1 and series 2 :))

They won't call it an 8 this year. They will give it a one off name such as edition or anniversary. Next year 8.
 
Looking very likely for a 7s, 7s Plus, and 8.

If that's the case, only a blue 7s would be enough to calm me down from the anger :mad::D

If they called the mystery phone the 8, what happens next year with the 7s successor name?

No, I'm more inclined to go with the notion that Apple will call it the anniversary edition or something one-off.

Then 2018 phones will be the ip8. Doing otherwise will just make things even more confusing.

I still believe they're going to dispose of the numeric nomenclature sooner rather than later. It's becoming cumbersome.

True, but then how would the 2017 "anniversary" iPhone be followed-up by the iPhone 8? That's just even more confusing.

It's hard to believe the 2018 iPhone will have a different design than the 2017 "anniversary" one. Thus 2018 one would probably be like an "S" model to the "anniversary" iPhone and thus can't be the iPhone 8.

In short, we'll probably get a new naming convention this year.
 
There a couple of ways Apple may play it out.

We will just have to wait and see.

Ahhhhh...Nearly three years away and it's nice to see that things haven't all changed...But the norm ( just to add fuel to the fire) has been number followed by S, followed by number etc. But this is Apple...might not even be called an iphone for all we know or are able to discern from news bots etc.
 
rumors & leaked iphone 4 (lost in a bar) = became reality
rumors & leaked iphone 5 = became reality
rumors & leaked iphone 6 = became reality
rumors & leaked iphone 7 = lot of renders but no significant redesign = became reality
rumors & leaks of iPhone 8 = going to become reality

A nice omission there about the whole 4s thing and plenty of rumors that it would be a new "teardrop" design and potentially even called 5 or something else even. Didn't become reality then or ever actually.
