I think you know the point he's making, once you're upgrade eligible, naturally you want to take advantage of it and get something "new".

I seriously hope that no-one on these forums believes their phone stops working when the contract ends or they may have even bigger problems than being stuck with an old phone.

Disipte rumors that the new iPhone may not be released until the Fall, MattMJB0188 suggested that he would be forced to buy an iPhone4 in June if the 5 was not available. Hobbes was responding to that.

Yes it does. That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard. If it is not identical spec-wise, it is a new phone.

What about all the rumors that the hardware you speak of is coming in September?

That doesn't mean it can't be announced at WWDC to be released at a later date. I'm not saying there absolutely will be a new iPhone, I'm saying it's not obvious that there won't be one.

That's good. I'll be that much closer to my upgrade date in November this year. My iPhone 4 is still great! Eleven months old!
