yes but that is for the Treo, if you check the prices on a blackjack its only $20 for unlimited data which is wut i would be willing to pay. Hopefully cingular/apple see's we are putting out enough just to pay for the iphone and will give us a break on the data plan.

Ha... Hahaha.... hahaha hehehehehe... hohohohoho

give you a break on the data plan.... a company? Wow... that is funny. :D

No, that's how the greedy companies in the U.S. work. It's time for this country to realize that the phone and the service are two separate things and start selling them accordingly.

Your logic is flawed. A phone will not work without a service plan, a service plan will not work without a phone. Selling them separately doesn't make sense.

And remember Gordon Gecko; "Greed is Good."

I can't wait until they come out, but i wish they would make an iPod version without the phone so the people that don't have cingular service can experience a lot of the touchscreen features.

That is pretty weird, why would they be different?

Looks like they're already lining up at the 5th Ave. store...

Umm... I don't think so. That's a photoshopped image of the guy who asked his girlfriend to marry him.

Sprint is dead...

Amen brother! No line and no Cingular... I will pick mine up a year from now for $300 (8GB) at a Sprint store and walk out the door.

Keep dreaming. One would be lucky to find this phone through anyone other than AT&T here in the USA. Remember a minimum two-year exclusive contract with AT&T was signed by Apple for proividing the iPhone's network.

And one will NEVER see it on Sprint's network. Sprint's network is the past. And I am not stating AT&T is the future either, probably T-mobile to be honest... which the iPhone could someday, and rather easily, be available on.

Am I the only one?

Am I the only one that thinks that (notable exception of storage space) that this thing is worth five or six hundred bucks even without the phone portion?

I'd buy this thing in a heartbeat if I could get it sans the phone function.

But, uh, oh yeah... I'm getting it with the phone function, anyway.

Yep. The "W" and the "o" give it away :snaps fingers: just like that.

Doesn't anyone look for glaring typeface issues, anymore?

$20/month sounds right for the data plan because the iPhone is hardware-crippled to the slower GPRS data plan.

In theory, GPRS can be 2x dialup speeds - in practice, don't expect GPRS to beat your 56kB modem by much.

$40/month plans usually are for cellular data (up to broadband speeds) on a smartphone (non-tetherable)

Typically $60/month (w/ voice plan, $80/month without a voice plan) gets you cellular broadband via a modem card (PC Card/ExpressCard) for the laptop or on a phone that can be tethered to your laptop (but if you download over 5GB/month you'll likely see your data plan terminated)

It'd be worth $599 if it had 80 gigs, not 8. An 8 gig video iPod is like a Ferrari car with a half gallon gas tank. I have an 8 gig iPod Nano that fills up rather quickly.. and that's just music. I can't imagine having to also cram in video, movies, pictures, etc and have it fit comfortably. And a 4 gig model? Way too small. These phones won't have widespread success until they can at least push units with 30-100gigs.

I used to sell T-Mobile... God forbid they put such a great phone on such a bad company, Sprint may be no Cingular or Verizon but it is hand over foot better than T-Mobile. And never is a very strong word... if Apple expects to grow this iPhone thing, then they will open the phone up to all of the carriers.

Ouch, better sell my first born then.

Doesn't make sense technologically yet. I don't want to pay $600 for a phone with a HDD in it that when dropped can't be replaced by the cell company. I will take flash anyday when it comes to something I am carrying with me. Like in 2 years when the iPhone is cheaper, flash based storage is up to 40GB at .01 cents per Gig, and when they put it on the Sprint network.

i'm guessing there will be apple care.

another option is to purchase the phone with a credit card that provides protection on purchases and/or to get some sort of homeowners'/renters' insurance...

Err.. if you have renters/homeowners insurance that has a deductible anything less than twice the cost of an iphone, you need to be doing something else with your money. This is NOT the product for you. The iPhone is a luxury item. You're living beyond your means if you actually worried about buying insurance for a $599 item. Simple facts of life.

Well, apple should make them simply operate on compact flash or something where you could simply pop in 4 gigs worth of music for $50 bucks or less. I think the problem with expandability is the ipod and DRM. It has to all be one unit. One ipod. If the thing didn't function as an ipod, they could add expandability. Since it's an ipod, it has to be closed.

YOU don't have any logic. There are only 3 or 4 types of carriers out there. Lots of companies, only a couple technologies of transmitting data. There's no reason that when a new phone comes out from say Nokia, they couldn't sell 4 versions. A GSM, a CDMA, etc. Obviously they'd have to put what carriers use what in a chart or something, but not a big deal. The phones could come with or without a sim chip. Very simple.

When you choose Vonage or BellSouth or AT$T or Alltell or whoever for your local phone service, do you also get a phone? Is there also a 2 year contract? No. Contracts are completely negating free competition and keeping phones ridiculously expensive. Less phones sold because you often have to renew your contract to pay less for the phone. Less phones sold because you might have to switch networks to get a deal.

There's not much need for lowering phone prices to lure buyers. They're stuck for the most part with whatever carrier they're with. If they want a new phone, they pay full price or sign another contract starting the whole cycle over again. It's ridiculous. Sell them separately and without contracts, and there's immense competition for both. Service becomes more important too.

No... I wish Apple would make the perfect iPod/iPhone hybrid by next week, but we just have to be patient. The big problem with expandible flash is that you can't get anything above the already standard 8GB without spending over $100 on a moderately fast 12 or 16GB card, or buying a slow speed one that will take forever to fill. HDD are still a much better option for price and portablility, but I wouldn't want to have a phone that already costs $600 ( a fullsized PC laptop ) to have it inside. The 7G iPod with iPhone interface and screen and tech... YES! I can deal with that.

Well, hopefully they add in those 64 (or is it 32) NAND drives. I have the once coveted 6 gig mini that is all full but I only have a few videos that I would need/want to place on my iPhone.

But, I'm sure that will all change once I start ripping my DVDs to the iTunes format and all that.

A phone with a harddrive is going to last maybe an hour. Especially since it's an iPod. You just can't listen to music for hours and then expect your phone to also make calls. There'd be no juice left. Flash is the only option. 8 gigs is pretty substantial. I have a 15 gig ipod and I've got about 150 full cds on it. I don't need that many CDs around. So an 8 gig will hold 50 or so or a couple movies. A couple movies will drain your battery before you finish watchng them all. It's not a DVD player. Yes it'll play a movie if you want, but a portable DVD player would be a much better option for a road trip.

And if you think flash is expensive (it's not) then look at the cost of P2 cards for high end video production. 8 gigs is around a thousand bucks and all it is is a proprietary flash card.
