iPhone XS Max No Landscape Homescreen on Max :(

You don’t need landscape home screen to watch things.

But, when I quickly want to check a message/email, it's annoying to go to the home page, then select the app sideways (or rotate), go in to the app - only for it to not auto rotate, so, I need to pick the phone up, go to normal, then tilt... and repeat.

I just really hope this comes back before too long.

Right now, I have a case with a fold out hinge... my phone is in front of my computer monitor in landscape... I've had the same case design for the 7+, X, and now Max - I honestly can say that I loved using it this way on 7+ and really missed it now :(

It should just be a preferences option. lol. Why is this so hard?
It will probably be like the mute/rotate button fiasco on the ipad! give it time... fingers crossed!

Noooo! I had a 7+ and loved using it in landscape when at the gym to watch things on or as a satnav in the car.

This discussion isn't about if the phone can be used in landscape more or not. It's about the home screen rotating in landscape mode. No one is saying apps won't run in landscape mode. Just that your home screen can't be orientated to landscape mode.

It's highly related - As previously said, I enjoyed the choice of using my phone the way I wanted - in Landscape, this was perfect - when in a landscape app, you could go to the home screen, change apps and carry on with ease.

Without the home screen in landscape, it breaks the user "flow"... if it isn't on the app switch list, you have to go home - then rotate the screen, then click the app and rotate it again...

So, whilst I mentioned a use case for me, it's VERY annoying that the home screen doesn't work in landscape and that was the point/reason I posted here.

An example again is satnav in the car - I love Waze in landscape... if I quickly switch (when safely stopped) to check an address or similar, the phone often loses rotation when going to the home screen, meaning that you have to pick up, change rotation to portrait, then back to landscape.

So - yes, I use apps in landscape, but, I want the home screen to work that way as well!

Well, I for one am very disappointed at this, I even did a search and saw a hands on review stating that the max HAD landscape mode (Obviously it was wrong). Other than the bigger screen, this is one of the reason I upgraded from the X, I used my phone on landscape all the time.

It does have landscape -- just not on the home-screen.

I enjoyed the home screen in landscape on my 7 plus. Thought something was wrong with my Max. Maybe they’ll bring it back.

I was always disappointed that turning it sideways didn't really give me more space for the content in some areas. It just uses the extra space for the list on the side. I wanted that space to be my text, email, note, etc. Especially email. I'm sure there are those who would hate that setup, but I would have been fine clicking a button to go back to the list. It's cool looking, but not useful for me.

I definitely miss this from the Plus models, but it’s not a deal breaker. Others have mentioned it may have something to do with Face ID, amongst other things, who knows though. Let’s see what iOS 12.1 brings!

Have owned Plus version since it existed. I might have used home screen in landscape 5 times. It moves my apps to all the wrong places. :)

Support for the Max screen resolution by all apps is set for devs to meet by March. Desktop was moved to iOS 13 to be revamped I thought.

How would the homescreen look in landscape with the notch? That right there is probably why it's not a thing.

I would look like there was a notch on the left, just like it does in apps. But apps have landscape mode. Why would this be a problem for the home screen?

The home screen is a rectangular grid of evenly spaced icons. How do you see that aesthetic being maintained with a notch on one side?

Looking at my 6 plus, I can tell you the notch would not interfere with any of the icons. Also, in landscape mode is it NOT a rectangular grid, because the dock is on the right side of the scree, and it's icons do not even line up with the rest of the icons; they are spaced farther apart. So much for symmetry being paramount.
