For me, it comes down to the OS. Mac OS X and iOS reign supreme for me, and you will never see me using Android or Windows.

I agree, and so does 80% of my family (and extended family). Thats why this past Christmas they all made the switch to some form of Apple product (Mac/iPhone/iPad/iPod touch), its all about the OS, in my opinion.

LG can keep their .01 mm, I will stick with my iOS.

Exactly. I think all these "Apple is screwed" or "can Apple keep up?" threads are retarded.

I can't even count how many things are wrong with this comment

high resolution display, large screen smartphone with few physical buttons and a glass screen

yeah other companies are clearly unaware/don't give a crap about the iPhone

They don't. Why should they? Android is where all of the growth is. iPhone 4 was obsolete the day it came out. iPhone 5 might be as well.

LOL> added to ignore list.

Hey, noob, Google the words "pentile matrix."

And, oh, stop embarrassing yourself.

They do a lot of good things, and I agree that some of the stuff they do is really cool.

But c'mon guys, they had a effing 320x480 screen resolution from 2007-2010. By that time the rest of the phone world was using 480 x 800 resolutions and etc. Apple didn't do no BS innovation with their retina display, they just updated their ancient screen resolution to something more relevant and decided to market it as some big feature. For the record, the sony ericsson X1 had a screen dpi of 311 and the iphone 4's 326, the diference to the human eye is pretty much indistinguishable.

The iphone 4 is a decent phone, but in terms of hardware it literally is last year's technology, just like how the Nexus S and samsung's eleventy billion Galaxy models are as well. **** gets old fast in the technology world. Sheeple please deal with it.

Agreed. I dislike quite a lot of what Apple does too.

Agreed. The iPhone 3G had a mediocre display, and by the time 2009 rolled around, it was inexcusable for Apple to introduce the 3GS with that LCD.

This is one point where you need to give Apple some credit. Yes, phones like the X1 (and a few high-end Japanese phones) have very high DPI displays, but the X1 still is only 480x800, whereas the iPhone 4 is significantly higher resolution than anything available in the west and is still higher resolution than most of the products NOT YET released! The Retina Display is impressive today and will be awesome for another year. Motorola reused the same 3.7" LCD on the Droid 2/Milestone 2/Droid 2 Global that was on the original Droid Milestone (which I own) because it is still, even today, a fantastic display with the highest contrast and most accurate colors of any mobile LCD --yet, in many ways, I think that the Retina Display is superior because of its sharpness and resolution. Even a new Japanese phone like the Aquos 941 with 480x1024 resolution has few pixels than the iP4.

The iphone 4 is a decent phone, but in terms of hardware it literally is last year's technology, just like how the Nexus S and samsung's eleventy billion Galaxy models are as well. **** gets old fast in the technology world. Sheeple please deal with it.

The 4 isn't old tech yet. There is still not another phone on the market that clearly beats it in hardware. The Nexus S definitely does not because it has an inferior screen (pentile matrix crap), arguably worse camera (depends on whom you ask), and basically the equivalent everything else. The next quarter, when Moto/HTC/LG/Samsung release their next Android/WP7 phones, the iP4 will be behind, but right now, it's no worse than any other model.

There are already at least 4 phones that beat the iphone4 in hardware.

The super AMOLED on the Galaxy S line blows the iPhone 4's screen away for contrast ratio, brightness, color reproduction, and size. My roommate has an iphone4; I have a vibrant. When we are out at a restaurant for dinner or whatever, it is the screen on the Vibrant that draws the comments when I put on a movie or start showing photos. The IPS screen on the iphone has a nicer resolution (at the moment), but it looks muted and dim compared to the super AMOLED.... then there's the fact that the super AMOLED is protected by Gorilla glass... iPhone4 is old tech compared to the Galaxy S in this regard. Cry some more and deal with it.

All cell phone cameras are weak. Period. Every last one. There is no room for a decent sized sensor or optics (which is why they are fixed focal length).

The EVO had the ip4 beat by time the iphone 4 came out. Iphone4 has exactly two advantages:
1. Battery life (which you need because Apple doesn't let you replace the battery)
2. Resolution (but probably not for very long, since higher res Android phones are coming out this year).

Funny how every single manufacturer was trying to put that 'pentile crap' screen on their phones at the end of last year and couldn't because Samsung hadn't gotten their 2nd screen factory into production. You do know that Samsung pretty much built the iPhone 2G–3GS, right? Oh, no you didn't because you're fan-boy who can't see past his own ignorance of modern tech.

Cry some more. iPHone 5 better have some amazing hardware in it, or it will never sell faster than Android ever again.

The iP4 isn't outdated tech. I love how you contradict yourself with the EVO. Samsung didn't make any of the iPhone models (whatever that's supposed to mean). SAMOLED vs. Retina is all based on opinion - not fact - which means that argument is no longer plausible. According to many reviews (and many people's personal use), the iP4 camera is quite good, beating both the EVO and Droid X in tests. I don't have to worry about crying. Maybe you do, but I sure don't. You're the fanboy. I cannot believe how you think the iP5 won't sell faster than an Android phone.

The real question is, with such a small difference, does size matter more than what you do with it and how you use it?

And remember, if you use protection, the small difference in size is negated.

No. The real question is, who the heck watches movies on their phone while theyre dining in a restaurant?

I think you'd better go back and do some research. I think you'll be surprised exactly how many components of the original iphones were sourced from Samsung.

It isn't a coincidence that Samsung now has phones, tablets and mp3 players that resemble the older iphones in appearance (look at a Vibrant and compare it to a 3G). They had already been making the hardware and supplying it to Apple for years.

No.... color reproduction, contrast, viewing angle, resolution, size and brightness are all characteristics than can be measured precisely. Whether you *prefer* one screen over the other is where your opinion comes in.

The iPhone4 IPS screen is definitely nicer for resolving finer detail in text (like when I read chinese/japanese) or photos... but the Vibrant looks like a mini plasma TV when I play movies on it. Go into a T-mobile store and fire up Avatar on the store model.... its pretty good.

You'll have to excuse me here. I take most of my photos with a Canon 7D, so you will have to excuse me if I think that all cell phone cameras suck (which they do) compared to dedicated cameras. There is not enough of a difference between any current cell phone cameras to bother arguing which on of them sucks the least. Even an el-cheapo $100 ultra-compact point&shoot camera is a vast improvement in terms of dynamic range, noise, f-stop, sharpness, and shutter speed.

I cannot believe how you think the iP5 won't sell faster than an Android phone. Wake up, stop drinking your troll kool-aid and act like a grown-up.

You should take a look at some sales figures. 70% of iPhone4 sales were to existing iPhone owners (that was a few months ago, the numbers are probably slightly different by now). Android has been out-growing and out-selling iPhone for a while now.... people have even posted the figures on this forum. I expect the trend to continue with iPhone 5. The only thing that will give iPhone 5 a chance at more growth is to go multi-carrier, because it is not likely to have any features or functions that other phones will already have.

another post, another set of MULTIPLE errors found

You are a lost cause and sad attention seeking person, This particular part is just sad

When we are out at a restaurant for dinner or whatever, it is the screen on the Vibrant that draws the comments when I put on a movie or start showing photos.

A lot of people here were some of the first people in states to get their iphone 4 in their area. But what kind of attention seeking nerd starts showing off videos on their new device in a public restaurant

There are currenty no high end LG super phones on the market, what you know about LG is flip and low end dumb phones from the past.

Tell me about it. My first touch phone was the LG Dare. (the memories are just too painful).

Most of the people here are that type of 'nerd'

Samsung didn't create anything, Apple did. All they do is manufacture the parts. Now, with the A4 chip, did they work with Apple on creating it? Yes, of course, but Samsung obviously copied Apple with the Galaxy S series. There's no denying it. Samsung didn't create that - Apple did. Jonny Ive isn't part of Samsung.

No.... color reproduction, contrast, viewing angle, resolution, size and brightness are all characteristics than can be measured precisely. Whether you *prefer* one screen over the other is where your opinion comes in.

Your argument is ridiculous. It's like saying, this pizza is better than this company's pizza because it has better, high-quality sauce. My pizza is the only good pizza - you can't have an opinion. There is no definite SAMOLED rules. End of discussion.

I have. I'm fine without. No need to impose your values on me, son.

I'm wasn't comparing top-of-the-line "real" cameras. I was comparing smartphone to smartphone.

People aren't agreeing with you. Where did you get this exact proof? Android may be growing, but iOS isn't going anywhere. A multiple carrier strategy here in the U.S. would crush Android, and you know it.

all i meant was apple still have it on their site as the thinnest smartphone in the world, maybe when lg release theyl take it down or change it to 2nd thinnest lol

lol!

or maybe they could change it to "thinnest phone that anyone actually cares about."

"Thinnest phone you can use to do something"

"Thinnest phone with a feature set post 2002."

The real question is, with such a small difference, does size matter more than what you do with it and how you use it?

And remember, if you use protection, the small difference in size is negated.

plus if you use ribbed protection, she enjoys it more....

wait, what are we talking about?

you're right, but it's 2011, and it's literally last years technology in that sense :D.

The pentile matrix just gives it less subpixels than the iphone 4. The contrast ratio on an AMOLED display can't come close to an ips panel. It's got actual "black" thanks to the fact that it doesn't need any backlighting.

The iphone 4's display is good, there's no arguing that, but at the same time there are other displays out now that are arguably better. The only 1 up apple has over it is a higher resolution.

and to the mods, no this isn't trolling. I'm stating a fact right now.

The real question is, with such a small difference, does size matter more than what you do with it and how you use it?

Huh, I always though with protection the sensation is negated.....(seriously kids, use condoms)

Tarzanman, maybe you have a good camera (to be honest the C7D body is OK... there are better ones out there) but do you have optics that are able to take advantage of the body? Are YOU able to use it? Do you have the eye for the motif?

I put this into question too - would you be able to use the iP4s successors Speed? If you could - are you sure that the Software is able to use the processors speed?

I think it is still a phone and the only thing I do not like using my iP4 is when I am bound to 3G and tethering my MBP... It is slow compared to Wifi and its unbearable on GPRS. But the Phone itself is fine. I can't see why it needs to be that fast.

But of course I think C2D delivers appropriate speed for a MBP13... so I am not one of the "newer is better is faster - and you will NEED it" preacher.

Fact is, a newer and faster iPhone is around the corner and some people will buy it.
