No it's not. 5100 is Iris and 5200 is Iris Pro with Crystalwell.

Yo B..., what's going to be your plan of action as I know we were in the same boat and was hoping for a refreshed rMBP to be announced.

Well, I'm not quite sure now. If Apple had never lowered the rMBP's pricing I would go for the Air. But they did, and I went to see it, and I can't go back to a lower resolution TN display, even though it may have an amazing battery life. So I am going to wait, because the fact that they didn't update it means the update should be relatively soon. I don't know how soon, but Iris is available Q3, and that starts July. Hopefully they will be out by August, so I can have it with the Back to School promo. Battery life is pretty important to me, though, as it will be my on-the-go computer. Even though 12 hours is really appealing, the screen and the 1.3-2.6 GHz processor are pushing me away.

So the choice is to wait even more, or settle for much less in some ways, but more in others.

That is my post from another thread. What are your thoughts on the decision?

Good choice, I'm going to wait as well. Even though the new Airs are pretty sweet, I too want the Retina display. I will hold out as long as I can for the refreshed rMBP.

The only issue I have is with the Back to School offer. If it's good this year, I'll just get the old rMBP (even though I just sold mine...). If not, I'll wait for the new rMBP and just not get the BTS offer. Neither solution is ideal, but what can ya do?

I think I'll make my decision next month.

Depending on the money I have, if I have enough, I think I might just get a rMBP. If not, I'll get a 13" Air.

Any idea when the Back to School promo starts? I bet it will be another $100 iTunes card.. which I don't really care for.. but it's free.

but the least they could have done was announce that they are updating them.
Yes, Apple should shoot itself in the foot by telling everyone not to buy any more MBP's because they're about to be old and outdated crap.

LOL!

LOL you all waited for nothing

just buy it now and enjoy it.

if its anything like the air, its just a spec bump and most of you will prob not notice a difference using the 2012 or whenever the 2013 comes out

the next time something is released is prob october when the new imacs were updated

2013 is out, updated earlier in the year. Got one thankfully.

They're going to be kicking themselves for not having an update before the new school year. The past few college freshman classes have been able to get the updated version. It didn't always have the new OS X, but they did update the hardware.

Back to School promo usually starts mid June. Last year it started June 11, and in 2011 it started around June 16. I'd expect to see it pop up sometime in the next week or so.

Personally, I don't *need* a new computer now, so I'm just going to wait for the next rMBP revision anyway.

You mean like the Mac Pro today, or the 3 Ghz PowerMac G5 that Jobs announced but Apple couldn't make work so they released a 2.5 Ghz 12 months later, or the SE030 at the SE launch or the... I could go on and on. It's not like they haven't done it before.

Sucks a lot!!!

I have been waiting to upgrade to rMBP, then give my 12 year old my 2007 17" Santa Rosa MBP.

I bought a refurb rMBP last month, but returned it. I realized if I've waited 6 years, and the price is 3k, I'll wait for the best. NOT!!!

Was hoping for:
rMBP 15"
Processor bump
802.11 a/c
Up to 1 TB flash hardrive upgrade avail
New OS
About $3,200

Oh. That's right. People don't do creative work in the summer!!!???!!!

Yes :)
Buy in October, then refresh in Feb '14 and new ones Oct '14.
Repeat!!

Almost pulled the trigger on a 386, then I heard the 486's were gonna be much more powerful, so I waited.
Now I hear about Iris. Will this ever end ??

I'll definitely wait for the new ones to be announced before I buy anything, but the refurb Retinas are looking pretty good right now. With what I sold my baseline Retina for yesterday, an upgraded rMBP with the 2.6GHz CPU/512GB SSD/8GB RAM would cost me less than $300 out of pocket.

I've been out of the loop for a while, so could someone explain to me why October is the expected release for the new MacBook Pro with Retina Display? I'm hearing stuff about Intel's Iris Pro, but I haven't seen any word on release dates for it.

why in the world would you sell it without waiting first for the announcement? it's not like it was going to sell out if it was announced

Actually, It had a anti-glare screen.
But, looking into the future, I was willing to give up anti-glare for big hardware bumps.

 lol

Buy a new Air, sell 3 month old air and buy rMBP? Doesnt seem to bad :p

To be honest I would have done the same if my Macbook was in resell able condition.

Haha I know, I think I'll just wait it out, I've a PC that'll do for a while. I thought I'd sell it just before the WWDC just in case the MacBook's were updated and my 2012 model lost even more value, but now I've got to wait a few months! First world problems at its best haha
