jthey arent going to put anything earth shattering into a newer model that will make you want to go out and kill yourself just because you bought the older one before it was released (at least i'd hope not)

Hehe -- you obviously haven't been following the Mac Pro forum after the recent upgrade  Plenty of unhappy folks there who wish they'd waited a little longer before buying last year's model.

I would be very happy if Apple doesn't update the MBP today. I paid almost US$3000 for my MBP and would like to see it retain its value for as long as possible (i know IT products prices drop v. rapidly as technology advances). Yay!!!! :)

It looks to me like this new machine will be essentially, the 12" iBook replacement. Since the dawn of the Macbook - they've lacked that part of their older lineup.

This still leaves a chasm, a monumental chasm, screaming for a 12" MBP. Have Cupertino forgotten how many 12" PB's they sold?

well sure, but that macpro has had the same config for almost what two years now? (k not quite) but the macbook pro was updated just 6 months ago and had new available options just 2 months ago

Yah, and there will be a lot of people who adopt the new stuff early who will encounter bugs, design flaws, etc.

It is an age old problem.

I bought a new top of the line MBP 17" three weeks ago because I needed it.

I have no regrets either way. It is a proven tested machine, which is what I needed.

Whatever Apple releases today will not be all that much better, in terms of top end MBP, than the current model.

And there might be bugs . . .

While it is smart to wait till after today's show to make your purchase, It is however counterproductive to wait any more for something that will constitute a 5 to 15% gain in performance in only very specific tasks in the worst case scenario. Admittedly it is nice to have the latest and greatest for as long as possible because you paid good money for it.

You will never have the latest and greatest for more then 6 months. I guarantee you that. So be smart about it but don't kill yourself over it. You are buying a machine to help you or someone else be more productive. The more you waste time wondering if a minor update is around the corner, the less productive you are.

There is so much more to owning a mac then that little 8% floating point processing power gain from the previous revision.

Good luck with your purchase.

am i the only one who thinks the name MacBook Air sounds rediculous?

+1 for me.

I would prefer a name like, macbook nano or something. But we'll see, maybe macbook air, really will be suitable. We'll have to see what features it has. But regardless if Steve doesn't walk out with an alien holding his hand, I'm gonna be pissed. :p

I'm satisfied with current designed MBP but slim MBP or MB Air without optical drive built-in and SSD only are turn me off, not my type.

I must have optical drive built-in to watch DVD or run softwares without any hassle from external, I'm deaf member and usually watch DVD with closed captioning instead of download from iTune or rip off from DVD into mp format.

I hope that DVD companies would make thinner optical drive built-in, that allowed Apple to fit it on MB Air or slim MBP in near future.

I feel that MB Air would included with Intel GMA, wait and see at 9 am pst.

what do you mean by DVD companies. because the people making dvds dont control sizes of optical drives?

I means that companies that make optical drive (like DVD or BD), I just expected about someone would invent a new thinner optical drive to make fit on MB Air in near future, that just my prediction.

I think people are going to buy it for the same reason I bought the ipod nano. Because it was new and cool and seemed revolutionary.

About a month later they released the video ipods and I was kicking myself.

Is a nano that much more portable than a fullsize ipod? slightly, but neither a mb, mbp or mbair are going to fit in your pocket so who cares?

Is an airbook more portable than a macbook?

Have you seen how freakin small the macbooks are? and if you have trouble carrying around a macbook pro it's time for you to retire. I slide my powerbook into my backpack as if its a notebook. I mean a spiral bound notebook. I couldn't really justify paying so much money just for something small and cute (following my mispurchase of the nano).

airbook is going to be a bad purchase for many people I think.

I think we'll see an update to the MacBook Pro line. Looking forward to the keynote ... waiting ... tick tock tick tock.

finally someone who agrees with me

like shaving off 2 ounces is going to make a huge difference, i am quite impressed with how small and light the MBP is for how good of a machine it is

With the MBAir all but a certainty, I think it's extremely unlikely we will be seeing any meaningful update to the MBP line tomorrow. In fact, I think the MBP won't be updated at least for a period of 3 months after the introduction of MBAir. Simply put, Apple will not want to take the attention (hence the sales) away from MBAir by updating the MBPs. Makes perfect business sense to me, though at the same time it p!sses me off, as I'm one of the many who have been waiting for an MBP update since the launch of Leopard. But who knows, maybe Apple will surprise me and load enough power and doodads into this new toy to make me change my buying plans.

Well, I told you so! :D:mad:

Maybe Apple is waiting a week to launch the new MacBook Pro refresh just as they launched the Mac Pro refresh a week before MWSF. That way, the focus is on the MacBook Air right now.

I hope you're right, but I think you're wrong. A think a refresh is at least a couple of months off, and it will most likely only be a Penryn speed bump. When that happens we'll all say "WTF, I'll just wait a couple of more months for the complete redesign, bound to happen at Apple Developer Conference ". Unfortunately, experience tells me that we'll not see a complete redesign until sometime in the Fall, well after all the college kids who had been waiting for the totally new MBP cry "I can't wait any longer -- need a laptop for school now!", bite the bullet and buy the "old" one (plus the obligatory free nano), thus relieving Apple of all unsold inventory right before Apple introduces the MBP we all really wanted.

Yep. My gut says you are right.

I could be wrong.
