IME I actually need the bezels on my 11" iPad Pro for a good grip so as to not cover the screen. YMMV.

Well on the thread that was on here with 1800+ responses the 11 and 12.9 were pretty much split down the middle.

I know but anything on here is only representative for the more geeky side of Apple’s business and I have no doubt that real world data will have a different outcome.

I would agree. I still feel the average user is likely to buy 11” instead of 12.9”. 12.9” is mostly for pros/geeks I feel.

I recently ordered a new iPad Air 4, but cancelled the order a few days later, before it had shipped, after I looked more closely at the 11" iPad Pro.
I was originally going to purchase the iPad Air 4 / 256 GB / Wi-Fi, because the 64 GB would be insufficient for my needs - price for that configuration is $749.
Then I realized that the price for the 11" iPad Pro / 128 GB / Wi-Fi is $799. The 128 GB is very sufficient for my needs (and is not offered for the Air).
The iPad Pro has considerably better camera and speakers. The camera includes a flash, which the Air does not have. The display specs are better than the Air (ProMotion). I like that it has Face ID. I don't know if the Lidar scanner will be of use for my purposes, but it will be something to try.
Considering all of this, for me the iPad Pro 11" seems to be the best choice.

IMO the price difference between the Air 4 and Pro 11" isn't that much. I would recommend the Pro 11" to pretty much everybody for the below reasons:
120Hz
Brighter display
Quad speakers
The better camera/LiDAR are a bonus/optional
I find the Air 4 closer to the 8th Gen iPad than to the Pro.
In fact, I would take a Pro 10.5 over the Air 4 for the 120Hz display and quad speakers. Once you get used to them, there is no going back.

Agreed, you are looking at it very similarly to my own conclusions.
I do recognize that the Air has the A14 chip, vs A12X in the 11" Pro, but for my use I think that either of these iPads are going to be terrific.
By the way, until now my wife and I have only had the basic iPad models (5, 6 and 7 generation), so getting either the Air or the Pro is going to be enjoyable. Both of us use our iPads constantly.

I don't game. For me A10/A10X/A11 and up are more than enough from a computing standpoint.
I have never had a CPU speed issue with my iPad Pro 2018.
Yeah really the only benefits of the A14 chip is slightly better single core performance which is negligible and a much faster Neural Engine. I’m not sure how beneficial the faster machine learning would be though.

My thought on 11" vs 12.9" really boils down to uses. To me it's not a question of which is better. And I don't even think it's a question that only the individual purchaser can answer for themselves. I have a 13" Macbook Pro and have absolutely no interest in the 12.9" iPad. I have a 9.7" iPad Pro from sometime in 2016. I sometimes watch videos or TV on it, but rarely. I don't use it for office productivity work. I value the smaller size and lighter weight, for MY uses. But the added screen size of the 12.9 would make it the best choice for many others.

Simply because the 120hz screen, quad speakers, Lidar scanner, flash and most of other that the Air 4 doesn’t provide over the 2020 Pro isn’t a matter for me.
And 256gb is the minimum storage for me, while most people that I recommend the Air 4 over The 2020 Pro only needing 64gb.
But your standpoints and many others also works of course.
Also just yesterday I saw a youtuber pointing that the GPU on the Pro is actually matters when playing heavy games while connected to an external display, which I recently do too.
So my previous standpoint only applicable for those who seeks the most updated iPad with cheapest starting price.

Yes, all good points. I finally decided to order the 11" iPad Pro, 128 GB version. Delivery from Apple is Dec 2. I checked Amazon and it would have been less expensive but delivery not available until end of December. Seems that holiday orders may already be starting?
Thanks for responding to my question. The dialogue here and in some comparisons I found on youtube were very useful in helping me make sure that I thought through the differences between the two models.

Have they said anything previously that you can verify (about the iPhone 12, iPad Air 4 etc?). Might just be amplifying the same speculation as this thread otherwise?

If the leaker is suggesting that the 11" iPad Pro is not going to be continued, then I'm real glad that I ordered one when I did (not yet shipped to me but expected in a couple of weeks).

The concern with no future 11” iPad Pro is that the Magic Keyboard becomes an expensive door stop.
I suppose you if the iPad Air 5 retains its current size, you can repurpose the MK.

There’s still Air 4 that supports MKB.
But maybe after 2 years I hope they make MKB 2 with better features. The current one is limited in functionality.
Yes of course. But if you had an iPad 11 pro, you’re likely not to go iPad Air4. That’s a sideways move. If you like the 11” size, you‘re more likely to go Air 5.
As far as MKB 2, I hope that really happens.

Yup, this— they need to increase screen size of 11 Pro to differentiate from Air. And if they can do it by shrinking bezels, even better— then it fits the same accessories. Fingers crossed, because I much prefer the 11” size.
I don't think they can shrink the bezels meaningfully anymore on the 11" chassis. It's already very thin. Either the 11" is here to stay or they drop it and replace the Pro's with 12.9" and a new bigger size.
