Not sure. I was 5/18/2013 but am now at 12/18/12. I too was a launch day 4S buyer. Either way, I'm purchasing the 5 on launch so will be paying $486.

Why do people think they are entitled to a new iPhone every year when they haven't met their current contract obligations yet?

Ugh SPOILED PEOPLE!!!

Because it has happened in the past:p

We got two 4s units when they were introduced and AT&T has given us both FULL upgrades.

I called customer service at ATT and was told that ATT has yet to hear if Apple was giving them leeway in the upgrade pricing. I said that I had been under the impression that this was ATT's decision and was told that early upgrades to the new iPhone is always a contractual matter between ATT and Apple. Who knows how accurate it is, but the rep I spoke to seemed certain of what she was saying.

Just to offer another data point. Verizon has adopted the same policy. I was one of the ones who got the iPhone 4 on the first day there were available. All of us received our phones on Feb 6, 2011 and have a upgrade date of October 7th. So even though we are short just 16 days from being able to upgrade in the pre order, Verizon will not budge. We sure need some real competition in this market. These guys are way too smug.

Verizon tells the same story.

(following applies to U.S. based customers)

For a number of years, I would not do a contract. Then after realizing I had been with the same carrier for 5-10 years it dawned on me that I was being really stubborn and illogical. Foolish might be a better term. After all, I was not going to changing from one carrier to another anytime soon.

So, now we understand the 2 year thing is just a thing.

lol.

if you call at&t they will reduce some stuff on ur bill for like 6 months so in the long run it evens out.

I was expecting to get a 16GB iPhone 5 from AT&T for around $200-$300 like I did with the 3GS. When I saw $449 for a 16GB I died a little bit on the inside. I said F that!!! However, I just pre-ordered one an hour ago. I WANT IT!
