The 2G iPod touch only has a tethered jailbreak right now. Are you sure your iPod touch is jailbroken???
So can you SSH a background image into your phone and not even use winterboard? If winterboard is the culprit for the lag, I'm all for getting rid of it. I don't use any themes or icons that aren't stock other than my own wallpaper.

You complain about the .25 second lag in other threads yet prove you're not interested in efficiency. More concerned about your OCD with the perfect iPhone, I guess.
I can turn on my wifi and connect to my AP in one button press. You can't. Jailbreaking is more than just pretty themes. It's about enhancing productivity.
When people complain about lemmings and giving Apple fans a bad "rep," you would be a prime example unfortunately.

WinterBoard does have a considerable amount of "lag" brought into the OS from its installation, but the features outweigh the lag. MacThemes Forums are a great spot to show the influence that WinterBoard, and saurik in general, has had on people.
The only real bad lag I receive is in the Maps application. That is all that bothers me, really.

In my opinion, Its best to stay away from winterboard or mobile substrate. Those are the culprits for lag and instability.
I've since installed other apps than in my first posting and haven't had issues. I guess I'm more selective now.
