Every time I sent something to Apple for trade in, they sent me a cardboard box to send it. Not this time. Both with the iPhone and MacBook this week, I was instructed to take both in the FedEx and let them deal with packaging. When did that change?

I've done several trade-ins these past 12 months and I received shipping boxes as recently as last week. I do recall about 2 years ago when I was instructed to drop off a "bare" iPhone for trade-in at my local Fedex office. Trade-in went smoothly in all cases.

I think it depends on the situation. The FAQs on their trade in site says they do it either way.
