The Mac web has been flooded today with news stories from prominent blog publications regarding updated MacBook Pros.

The problem is that Apple did not in fact update the MacBook Pro today. Today's MacBook Pros are the same as the ones released February 26th, 2008.

The story is not necessarily that there isn't new MacBook Pros, but that everyone and their mother was writing stories saying there was, but there wasn't.

Was very confusing getting all the submissions about it

Wirelessly posted (iPhone: Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU like Mac OS X; en) AppleWebKit/420.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.0 Mobile/4A102 Safari/419.3)

Is it time for another update? If so, that seems awfully quick.

My guess: some people were fooled by the 2.6 GHz MacBook (likely) typo and got a bit confused. They also noticed the MBP ad advertising 2.6 GHz and multi-touch without realizing that it's nothing new. In the heat of their excitement, Apple's MBP and store pages of course confirmed all of it (as they have since February), so the confused folks started posting about it. Other sites picked up on it without thinking, and boom: viral misinformation.

Best. Post. Title. Ever.

After waiting and waiting and waiting for new MBP's earlier this year (and checking multiple forum thread incessantly), I vote that this thread become a permanent fixture on the forums.

Make it a sticky - and for all the people waiting impatiently for the next-gen MBP's, they have to post to this thread once a day.

Maybe

One of the links points to the UK Apple Site was Apple's site updated for the UK just today.?.?.

Does not sound Appleish to me!

People just don't catch on very fast i guess. lol

It was odd though; I'm not sure where it originated, but the first place I saw it was Gizmodo, and it was definitely bizarre....... since it treated it as "news" that the MBP's now had multitouch, and mentioned a 16" model.

Gizmodo didn't say the story came from anywhere else, which makes me think they are the originator of it. As near as I can figure, it was just some accidental posting of an old story or something like that.

I'm enjoying it though. Can't they check a little more before committing to a story?

Nice to see you back Zadillo. ;)

Not sure what everyone is expecting, the MBP and MB were just recently updated, if anything a sly bump is about all you should expect this year.

Now next year Feb or March that is a different story, expect major design and Nehalem chip. But not this year.

I don't think anyone was expecting anything; it's what made these false "MacBook Pro Updated" stories showing up on Gizmodo, etc. seem really odd.

OMG no new MBP's? *THROWS CURRENT MBP AGAINST THE WALL THEN BURNS THE REMAINS, sits down and sucks thumb*

Yeah, get over it.

I hope I'm not alone in thinking that this is the lamest part of this story. If you make a mistake, man up, admit it, and post a correction.

Don't pull the story, unless your name is Josef Stalin.

Just adding to the confusion ...

i dont' get it

Exactly. There is nothing to get.

You got it.

I think I need to go to bed cos at the moment it feels like I'm watching an episode of South Park. (Either that or I've actually fallen asleep and this whole thread is some kind of surreal dream I'm having.)

South Park Episode 1201 said:

Don't you see, Kyle?? I don't get it! [smiles, then walks up to Token] Token, I get it now. I don't get it. I've been trying to say that I understand how you feel, but, I'll never understand. I'll never really get how it feels for a black person to have somebody use the N word. I don't get it.
  • Token:
Now you get it, Stan. [smiles]
  • Stan:
[smiles] Yeah. I totally don't get it.
  • Token:
    Thanks, dude.

:D

The news (internet, TV, paper) is broken....
Long live the news !!!!

You know what they say: No news is good news. Although in this case ... ;)

Nobody in their right minds expected there to be new MBPs today. Take a look at the website for example - newly released iMacs advertised from last week = why would they give up that space to MBPs so soon after? Duh. Time wasting. And even Apple aren't dumb enough to update things every 2 months.
