Slim chance Apple might try to put the uprated Santa Rosa in and get some wacky 0.5 multipliers processors for new "faster" MacBook (Pro).

The title reminds me of a story my friend told me a few years ago. He was in Indonesia at a time that the press was less liberated. Journalists managed to get events by the censorship with stories like 'There was no protest outside the embassy in Canberra today' [unlike the day before]

Anyway. Not to be off-topic, but with a headline like that does it really matter.

Huh?!?! - why is anyone surprised by this?

I thought Intel had confirmed that the MBP would get an update in JUNE - this is WWDC and everyone reasonable knows this.

lets hope for more multi-touch gestures on mousepad

My guess: some people were fooled by the 2.6 GHz MacBook (likely) typo and got a bit confused. They also noticed the MBP ad advertising 2.6 GHz and multi-touch without realizing that it's nothing new. In the heat of their excitement, Apple's MBP and store pages of course confirmed all of it (as they have since February), so the confused folks started posting about it. Other sites picked up on it without thinking, and boom: viral misinformation.

I concur oh wild one:cool:

Not sure what everyone is expecting, the MBP and MB were just recently updated, if anything a sly bump is about all you should expect this year.

Now next year Feb or March that is a different story, expect major design and Nehalem chip. But not this year.

Actually, some of us are expecting (and hoping for) a major design change this year - before the release of the Nehalem chip.

I bet the next updates for the macbook pro won't come until about a month after the montevina release.

Haha. Brilliant. :D

I'm scared to ask, but what would your reaction have been if there HAD been new MBP updates?

You don't want to know....No, actually, the point I was trying to make was that too many people are dissatisfied with the current technology they have purchased. They whine relentlessly for NEW stuff, when the stuff they've got works just fine!

Yeah, and no new G5 Powerbooks, either...

WHAT IS THE WORLD COMING TO????

Zim: "GIR, come to the observatory....what have you done to the telescope?"
Gir:"Nothing...."
Zim: "Something is broken and it isn't your fault?"
Gir: "I know, I'm scared too....."

I remember that rumor. I laughed until I cried...but "everyone" was 100% convinced. Rarely are we SHOCKED by new technology....many can't seem to grasp that concept.

The Wait Continues

Amen brother! People on these forums keep talking about waiting for Nehalem updates next year as that will be the "real" update but most people ain't gonna notice a damn difference. The previous Santa Rosa, the current Penryn, the forthcoming Montevina and the future Nehalem MBPs will all load Safari quick enough (is clicking on the dock icon and it coming up more or less "instantly" not good enough for people?) and let you browse the web at the same speed.

Ditto for listening to music, using iWork, iPhoto and most importantly of all, Calculator and TextEdit! Unless you're using your MBP for processor intensive tasks, such as video editing or gaming, it just won't matter. I reckon that most people who own a MBP hardly stretch its processing capabilities at all. They just like the idea of having high specs and the latest technology whether they need it or not; the same for many people who put 4GB in their machines.

There will be an update SOOON !!

God, I hope so. All I want is a redesign and hopefully a new graphics card. Any processor speed bumps I couldn't care less over. The fact that they didn't make the touchpad bigger and kept the same keyboard when the multi-touch MBPs came out hopefully means they're saving it all for a proper redesign in the next revision. Just waiting patiently post July 14th to see if anything happens ...

Why is this thread getting resurrected?

Well the title of the thread is: "No New MacBook Pros Today" and as there are aren't any new MBP's today I guess this thread is still valid and will continue to be so until they are released... :D

Oh dear, it's like the Monday postings before the iMac refresh again.

It'll be here when it's ready and then folk will moan cos there's no Blue Ray, FW 1600, SSHD, 20" Display MBPs or 15" MBs

Waiting sucks. Saw a 15" Toshiba laptop in the Sunday ads with a 2.5Ghz Penryn, 400GB drive, 4GB memory, Nvidia 9400GS, card reader and Blu-ray for $999. Wonder how Service pack 1 has improved Vista ?

What model is that exactly, and who sells it? Just checked Best Buy and Circuit City and neither of them sell a laptop with anything close to those specs - Toshiba or otherwise - (I haven't even heard of Toshiba already offering a blu-ray drive yet after dropping HD-DVD as an option in their laptops), and certainly not for $999.

Which model is this as the specs and price point sound inviting!:)

Mate, you've already got a:

  • 17 inch MBP 2.16
  • 15 inch MBP 2.4 Penryn
  • 12 inch PBG4 867
  • Clamshell G3
  • PBG3

How many more laptops dost thou need on this so called "West Side" where you reside? :D

But I agree with Bubba Satori, it's hard waiting for the MBP updates when there's so many enticing PC alternatives, gotta resist the temptation and wait for :apple: ...
