I've gotten used to the one on my Air, but yeah, it's great that the Neo doesn't have one.
Same - I have used Apple devices with notch all the time so it's refreshing to see the Neo not have one.
Smart move by Apple to put into the bezel, albeit it's thicker....

No feelings either way. It wasn’t expected to have a notch anyway because that cut in the LCD reduces yields. This is a low-cost notebook after all.

Right before the announcement I thought: this MacBook will have a Notch, just like every other MacBook in todays Apple lineup. I’m so happy it does not have a Notch. How about you?
I am so happy it doesn’t have a notch that factored heavily into me buying the Neo.

The reality is… with a notch screen, the top part of the screen that comes down to the bottom of the notch is only really available for application menus, so there is an erosion of screen size in practice. With the notchless screen like a Neo, no such thing and application menus can be hidden and revealed so free up screen space.

I like the clean notchless screen so much I am going to lick it when I unbox the Neo.

I rather have a slightly larger bezel than a notch. I wish they'd try the same with the iPhone 17e.
I mean, on the MBP and MBA, you can choose one of the resolutions that stays below the notch and then you just get a large black bezel at the top of the screen. You are giving up screen real estate but that was the point of the notch to steal some space from the bezel without making the case larger.

Since the “notch” is because Apple expanded the screen size in the MacBook Air and MacBook Pro, I don’t mind it. The menu bar has a fixed location in macOS so the notch is far less intrusive than it would be on a Windows or Linux PC.

I am ambivalent about the notch. It has never affected my work flow. I am not crazy about the big bezels on the Neo but, I understand why it was done.
At least the bezels aren't as huge as my 11.6" Macbook Air from 2015:

This is the reason I’m getting it. Cannot stand the notch.
For years I’ve used and enjoyed a MacBook Air for travel as well as a 15” and currently a 16” MacBook Pro for the office.

The inclusion of the NASTY Notch on my newest MacBooks is disgustingly annoying.

Yet it’s no surprise as Apple will go to any lengths to make their devices instantly recognizable. They simply cannot help themselves.

I don't notice the notch at all. I think of any occasion when it's been an issue.

All the same, I'd prefer no notch to notch. But it's insignificant IMO.

It's not really the concept of the notch but the sheer size of it, and the laziness in Apple not even attempting to shrink it down. Most of it is just empty space yet it sits right in the middle of your line of sight, you can hide your mouse behind it it's so big ffs.

The size of it I believe is due to the webcam/light/microphone component not being redesigned when the bezels were shrunk down hence why the light are microphone sit so far away from the camera. this wasn't an issue when it all sat in a black bezel above the display, but when it's in the display it takes up unnecessary space. A very Tim Cook move which I'm sure saved them a few quid but comes at the expense to the user experience.

I was OK with it as a compromise when the first MBP was introduced with it but we're many years in now and they've changed nothing.

Fortunately we're rumoured to be getting a new MBP at the end of the year which will, FINALLY, have this component redesigned. This is supposedly to be a small cut out for the camera with some dynamic island like capability, and presumably the microphone moves out of the display to sit in the thin bezel above iPhone style. But then apparently the Air is carrying on for a few more years with it. I'm sticking with the Neo still the days comes I can get an Air without the thing.

Well said!

Considering the compromises to hit the price point, Apple has done a commendable job with the Neo.

I don't mind the notch too much because the area under it is still 16:10. It makes full screening apps kind of nice since you don't need to wait for the menu bar to "drop down" in full screen mode. That being said, I am also appreciating how my desktop looks without the notch there! It is kinda ugly.

My work Lenovo has a “bump” in the bezel where the camera and sensor are. While there is no “notch” it just shows that there are only so many ways of making room for the camera in a screen with a thin bezel.
