I myself am hoping for a dual g5 1.6ghz tower (new model), of course there is no way in hell this is going to happen. I would be content if they went with dual g4 apollo 1.2ghz. One thing I hope they do also is come up with a better mouse. I mean come on apple, get with the program, 1 button mice are a thing of the past, at least for powermac towers.

Business Wire - January 04, 2002 08:59

ORLANDO, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 4, 2002--MindComet Corporation, the recognized leader of broadband website and new media development, announced the completion of several key business alliances today. The company has successfully executed strategic agreements with Adobe, Apple Computer and Macromedia. "We are extremely pleased with our newly formed relationships," commented Ted Murphy, MindComet President/CEO. "We believe each of our new business alliances represent strong relationships with the respective leaders in their industry."

Adobe (Nasdaq:ADBE) accepted MindComet as part of its exclusive Adobe Solution Network, recognizing the company for its mastery of Adobe products in the realm of digital and print media.

Apple Computer (Nasdaq:AAPL) designated MindComet as Apple Solution Experts based on the systems and solutions MindComet has implemented around the Apple Macintosh platform.

Macromedia (Nasdaq:MACR) awarded MindComet with its exclusive Macromedia Alliance Partner designation. The company has recognized MindComet's expertise with Macromedia's Flash, Director and DreamWeaver product lines.

"This represents a huge leap forward for our company," said Murphy. "These agreements will provide MindComet with access to a new level of technology and services, allowing us to better serve current and future clients." The alliances will grant MindComet with pre-release hardware and software for testing and development purposes.

Nice Try Spymac?

Look at the Apple main page now! It says:
Nice try SpyMac. You were close. Not.

I can't believe it! Is it just me, or do we see some of the old Apple spirit back?

Anyway, this is the most hyped Macworld I can remember. Can't wait!

Apple and Nintendo

I know the console market has been ventured into by m$ but what a merger between Nintendo and Apple? Nintendo is the only gaming company that produces only consoles and games for them making them weak compared to Sony and m$. So it's possible don't you think?

Okay, I'll say it:

Mac ISP. Apple will release a new deal. Have Airport, will travel. Go look at Adobe Atmosphere. How would you like to have your data available anywhere, seamlessly and without connectivity hassles?

That is not the official Apple Site - you clicked on the second link "and a little rumor here"

Hmmm...could be.
I've heard this floated before as part of the networked PC instead of the standard desktop model we've had for the past decade. It would be bold too, since only major corporations and universities have been the only ones to even consider going this route until now.
Think of it. A trimmed down cheap appliance that wirelessly accesses all it's software and data. No need for big storage just ultra broadband.

re: question from iapple at 10:12 am today

iapple,

i don't really know if os x does usb printer sharing since i run os 9

...but sign up for free at experts-exchange.com and ask "weed" and i am sure he will know...he's the next best thing to woz in the apple universe as far as i am concerned

thanks and good luck,
networkman

Close, but no cigar ...

Ok... a few more NOTs ....

1. NOT OS/X running on a Wintel box. My guess is that Steve Jobs would have to be dead and buried TWICE before that would happen. And I can't see the Dark Lords over at Microsoft letting it happen too easily, and they control which OS Office will run on.

2. NOT another horribly doomed net appliance. We've had a dozen of them ALL crash and burn over the past two years. Apple is probably not that stupid.

3. NOT G5 (See my earlier posting. Nothing has changed since then.)

4. NOT just another generic PDA. If there IS a PDA introduced, it will have to be GREAT, combining iPod and Palm, be COMPLETELY compatible with WinDoze as well as Macs (so probably USB standard, with FireWire as an option, since FireWire is still not common on PCs) and compettively priced (around $399). That will be very tough for Apple (or anybody else). Sony or many other Asian manufacturers could build it easily, but not at that retail price point. If they come in at a higher price point they run into the Win2002 pocket PCs. They'll have to price it just right ...

5. NOT just an iMac with an LCD screen. We'll need more neat stuff on it to really sell well against the other LCD-based desktops. Apple need more breakout products like iPod, not just more stuff to sell to Mac lovers. Just watch iPod sales take off when they drop the price by $100 later this year and when the various Windows software packages are all available for it.

See my earlier post (p.7 of this thread, I think) for what I think it will be...

Now the 'boldly' has me assuming that the Enterprise cast WILL be on hand Monday....

Hmmm ...... Live long and prosper!
:)

This is just more speculation, but I do know that Intel's 2.4Ghz processors are scheduled to be released this January. Possibly Apple has reached 2.4Ghz (however unlikely that may be), and has pushed up the keynote one day to be one day ahead of the release of the 2.4Ghz P4's at Comdex?
I don't know for sure that they are being released at Comdex, but it would make sense, considering that they are supposedly starting to ship in January. And that would fit with the "going where no PC has gone before"....

Just more speculation...

Wonder Who's Watching ...

Hi Steve (and Woz, probably...);

I bet you're watching all this.

Amusing, no?

Have fun Monday.

maybe..just maybe...

OK, this is pure speculation, but it's right out there, and it's Apple elegant (well, I think so). I declare that:
1. I have absolutely no inside information, and more importantly:
2. I have never once been right before.

Here's my "out there" guess:

Count the days, count the minutes... (as a watch does)
Go where no PC has gone before... (on a wrist - straight out of Sci-Fi movies, too)
Way beyond the rumor sites... (that never stop plugging an Apple hand-held PDA - worn the wrist is way beyond hand-held)
Backstage pass to the future... (lets you know where to go and how to get there to be in the right place for your future)

ALSO:
"We've been working closely with Palm lately..." (get the app right so we can release the coup de grace)
"PDAs are not a good place to be right now..." (they are about to become redundant...)

It's a wristwatch. Like the iPod, it needs no input except by synchronised firewire (?? - port too big - ??), and it means that your wristwatch can display:
Your full address book
Your to-do list (which can even be "ticked off" using a simple button)
Your appointments
The time!... (now that's seriously radical!) and date
...and it gets updated every night when you take it off for bed, or every morning when you get in the shower, or every time you walk past your infra-red port.

It's not for data entry, just for data recall. I'll buy one.

Now, I'll stop this nonsense.

Alternatively, if I've got it right, you shall all refer to me as "Oh Masterful One" whenever abusing me in future. (Abuse is fine, keep it friendly.)

Now I'll really stop this nonsense.

Now, I must admit, when I first read your ppost, I thought what the hell is this guy going on about!
BUT, the quotes from the Apple.com page do make sense if it is a wristwatch..
Maybe it is..
Because I still believe there is something else besides the imac and other speed bumps..

Sorry for the double post..
I also think that "just speed" is not enough to make people buy. I mean how often do consumers think "Man, I just can't live without 2.4 GHz!" There's gotta be some amazing function involving Airport/Gigawire, or something so unique that we can't even imagine to REALLY BLOW US AWAY!
JUST breaking the GHz barrier, or reaching 2GHz isn't enough to make the public pay for the "Thing".

I've said this before and I'll say it again.

Do you want to run your car at 470 miles per hour or have air condition?

Apple WRISTWATCH

Well you guys remember the one post saying they thought it might be a wrist watch? Well, this is really wierd but last night i had a dream that i was at the mall and i had just BOUGHT the NEW APPLE WRIST WATCH! I just thought it was a strange coincidence. Anyway, we'll all see very soon.

Mac OS X for Intel systems! It has to be that. I mean the saying "to BOLDLY go where no PC has gone before"
There saying the "PC" has never seen the "Power of X" which is the feature presentation monday.

This was taken from the macworld website.

"Feature Presentation*- Just Announced! "

"Monday, January 7
Power of X - a presentation on the world's most advanced operating system!"

Apple isn't coming out with any G5s (well maybe) but they are going to blow away Windows XP out of its own territory which is why M$ came out with the XBOX so they could make all the money back with the losses Apple gave them. Thats the PUNCH in the stomach that Bill Gates deserves after stealing ALL of Apples ideas.

Get ready for all around mac os baby!!!!!!!

wristwatch...

I think the wrist watch IS kind of a ridiculous idea (but I must say it does take some courage to write something like that) but it DOES match the slogans on Apple's website..
What Mr. Likeable posted earlier does make sense..

But.. being more realistic.

1. Definitely SOME new iMac-ish thing. Probably LCD display, Could be a tablet, something wireless (airport/gigawire) to connect other electric equipment--aka Digital hub

2. Almost definitely a new PowermacG4 (almost no possibility of G5) and probably breaking the GHz barrier after all the sorrow of MWNY last year. (1.2DP,1.4would be nice..)
possibly USB2, Firewire2 if we're lucky, faster system bus, faster ram etc. (I hope there is a new case..)
AND yes there will be another shootout with Pentium4 2GHz

3. Possible revision of iBook (probably not Powerbook because of combo revision so recently) iBook might have new colors, combo drive standard, and maybe up to 700MHz (since the iMac will get a speed bump)

4. Some new digital hub divice, probably not iCam (the hardware) but something else. This could be the same as the iMac though..

5. iPhoto software

6. a Mac OSX 10.2 preview is possible, a minor update will probably be there to accomodate new hardware

7. Photoshop X may be released or at least be previewed (for the shootout too..)

8. Steve will talk about the retail stores and how well they are doing

9. Software demonstrations, photoshop, games etc

10. Appleworks 7 should be released because the present one is painful to use under OSX.

11. Remote possibiliby of iPod revision, the remote that was rumored and price cuts may occur (maybeee 10GB?)

This is what I've basically concluded so far, and guys, give me some feedback.

It's like I said on another thread (more or less):

Apple has fixed all the bugs in Windows3.1...

To boldly go where no PC has gone before. (That is, a crash-proof version of Windows.)

OS X on a PC is a possibility -- after all, didn't Jobs call a truce with Gates back when he was iCEO?

Maybe they are just slogans?

I just dont think that there are guys at Apple that would try to give away what they will show by giving out clues in the slogans. I think they will show something that will technically fit in the slogans, but it will just do something that we can already do with other products in an easier way. It's like the whole supercomputer thing, they said supercomputer power but Intel sped past the first G4's in a less than a year. Nobody will think their G4 400 will be a supercomputer when they see the iMac is faster than the first G4's.
Since I am writing something here I will ad my wish of a computer. One that I can take the CDRW/HD out of it and use it on the go. That way I can take my work with me and not have it tied to my home computer. Sure beats having to buy a tower and a notebook.

"...boldly go...", "...lust factor ten..."

Hmmmmm...

That's two Star Trek references in a row.

A long WALK would be a TREK.

Maybe there IS an Apple PDA, but instead of iWalk, it's iTrek.

Anyone know if the name iTrek is copyrighted?

My dollar bet is on one of these...

I'm going with my predictions from early Dec.

The biggest thing will be a PDA named iPad (Star Trek uses PADD's so the name is in line) with a larger screen than normal PDAs at $499

or...

OSX for PC's.
(with a disclaimer for performance issues for odd components)

or...

New PowerMacs now run using Motorola, Intel, AMD chips.

Dudes...
Motorola IS laying off 9,400 people, so they must know something is coming. With a layoff like that can they really be counted on to make faster super chips everyone's speculating about.

and a side bet is Jobs rides out on a Segway!!!
