And back here in the REAL world...

OK, enough Star Trek....

1. It is NOT the G5 - unless Apple has been doing a LOT of secret dev work to take advantage of the new G5 architecture, there would be no advantage (and a lot higher cost) in going to the G5 right now...stay tuned for MWNY this summer for a major demo and fall release date.

2. It is NOT a bigger Cinema display... 22" is just about as big as you'd ever want a computer monitor, and the LAST thing Apple would ever do is to get into the insanely competitive consumer TV marketplace.

3. It is NOT the holodeck or the transporter, either...

So what IS it?? I think a combination of things, all with a 'Where no PC has gone before' theme ...

1. All Macs move to G4, with faster speeds on the top models (well over 1GHz, probably). With the upcoming PhotoShop for OS/X, a 1GHz+ Mac would KILL a 2GHz Winbox running the current PC PhotoShop 6. So...SPEED where no PC has gone before...

2. Flat-panel iMac -- very small, light weight, easy to move from room to room, connecting to the net with AirPort (with the hub at a new lower price). G4 chip, maybe wireless keyboard and sound outputs for a stereo(?) So... go to ROOMS in your home where no PC has gone before...

3. POSSIBLY an Apple-label iPod/Palm combination, like the 'iWalk' (terrible name) videos we've seen. Basically a Sony-built Clie PDA combined with the iPod. The videos look real -- Apple ALWAYS has a bunch of neat prototypes floating around, but the build/finish quality is rarely that good on internal prototypes.
So...go out into the world with your Mac/Palm (well, this is not exactly 'where no PC has gone before').

If this Apple/Palm is real, watch out for a high price... $500+ US, and the market for PDAs now is BRUTAL. Don't know about this one... Apple still remembers Newton - great idea, too expensive, too early...It would be cool, though, to get some of the Enterprise cast (Scott Bakkula) to intro it, though, or maybe Jeff Goldblum with Vulcan ears ..

Other miscellaneous bits .... DVD/CD-RW drives on every new Mac, more memory, FireWire 2/USB 2 interfaces and (hopefully) a much faster bus on the top models to match those faster G4s ...

We'll see Monday...

Weird G5 thing

oooooooooooooooohhhhh, that looks pretty radical! Nice job on the Photoshop. Wish I could get a close-up, but maybe we can't for good reason! (like it's fake)If not then back to my previous comment of -- oooooooooooooooooooohhhhh :)

DVD

The only things im absoluty sure:

1. Its a device
2. Its lifestyle
3. Its easy
4. works in sinc with a MAC.

Enought for me. I want one

apple slogan change already?

Okay am I mistaken or did the slogan at apple.com add "BOLDLY" recently?? I seem to recall it only saying "to go where no pc has gone" earlier without "boldly" in it. Haven't checked the official site much today until just now so maybe this is old news. Anyone? What does the change mean?

wasn't it apple's 25 anniversary just a couple days ago.
could the rumoured $1800 pricetag be for a 25 anniversary mac/imac.
perhaps some new tech that would be a backstage pass to the future of computing or where no pc has gone before
anyways most of you seem to be smoking crack or something with all these huge dreams of 2.ghz g5s.
apple makes great computers period. they might not be the ultimate in geeky games, but they are great in video editing, music, photography. find me a pc that can do what a newer mac does with those things as easy as a mac does it.
as for predictions
powermac will break the ghz
there will be a new lcd mac
there will be a replacement for the imac
upgraded hardware. yes
faster bus
faster ram
faster and bigger hardrives
firewire 2
and great upgrades to apps
iphoto
imovie3 with rt compression (hopefully)
new appleworks
and the list goes on.

there will be surprises and i'm looking forward to that...

my imac dv400 w/512 ram does everything well enough for me. for the proffesional, i hope you get your supercomputer, i'm looking forward to the new apps

i bet it's a mind controlled mac. they have done it bofore. i read it in popular science, you put on a hat thingy and the computer reads your brain waves. then you can set specific wave patterns to things on your comp. so you could think internet....and it would open ie or something.

apple probably wont have it, but i thaught i'd throw it out any way

Confirmed. It's software!

It's confirmed. They are releasing a special version of American McGee's Alice which was never released for PC. In this version, Alice shoots machinegun bullets out of her a$$hole!

Tablet I-Mac

I believe it will be a "tablet" I-Mac; a cross between an I-Book and the new flat screen I-Mac everyone has been talking about. I'm sure it will run OS-X and have Firewire/Airport. The "docking" base will come w/ different drive options and a keyboard and mouse. It will have a touch screen/stylus and handwriting recognition.

"boldly"

anybody noticed that apple's site now states "to BOLDLY go wher no PC has gone before"?

where no PC has gone before

This has to be refering to a PC being at Macworld and running OS X.

No PC has ever run a Mac OS. This has to be it!

Cant wait till Monday!

Apple.com

I'vd had no problems viewing apple.com

I know were it can boldly go....

In my living room, right next to my TV. I want to be able to hook up my Mac to my TV, VCR, and Stereo Speakers, that way, I can:

play iTunes thru the speakers

play Quake X on my TV

play DVD's on my TV

Record Video from my VCR

I want to detatch my mac from my screen and make it into a TiVo or VCR type device. Its possible, but is the world willing to spend over a $1,000 on the device? It would not be just a computer anymore.

I hate getting into the guessing game that apple makes me get into before every Mac world. I thought the iPod was great, but the price killed it for me. I hope this does not happen with whatever they bring out on monday.

After reading the above article..

This tablet rumor better not be the device that "BOLDLY goes were no PC has gone before" because Gates already introduced a tablet.

Also check out IBM's net vista. That computer is the screen, so a flat LCD iMac will not be the "device". I really think its something that none of us have any idea about.

So Im saying no way in hell is the "new" device a PDA or Tablet computer. Thats been all over the rumor sights and Gates has already developed one.
I'm sticking with the idea of molecular processors. There a million times faster then anything else and there VERY small. I know its crazy, but its more likely then that iWalk thing.

If it is a tablet or PDA that will take us "boldly" somewhere then it better of some serious capabilities otherwise AAPL will suffer big.
