I bought a series one and they don't even come with a charging brick lol. I'm debating on exchanging my series one SG sport 42mm for a 42mm stainless series 0 from Best Buy. I watched a speed and app opening test and the new dual core was only slightly faster. I just use mine for notifications and music really. And they are insanely discounted, by like over $300.

I'd just need a silicone band as I'm in the gym 5 days a week.

That's interesting, the Series 1 doesn't include a charging block? Strange.

The Sport (Aluminium) Series 2, doesn't come with any case at all. Confirmed. I bought one today. What a dissapointment. Apple is becoming so mean....

At least you got a charging brick, to actually charge the Watch out of the box lol.

Not really a surprise as they've never provided the plush plastic case for the aluminum models.

I had a series 0 a while back and it did in fact come with the hard case with the plus inside. The new one just comes with cardboard. Unless you were referring to the square type box the SS models come in.

Series 0 stainless steel models did come with the hard case with the plush inside, but Series 0 aluminum models never did.

The first gen sport came with their own version of the hard case with plush on top. The case was hard with a little insert to hold the watch. The SS watch surely had a better case, but the sport did in fact come with a hard case.

So this is probably what the OP meant. Everyone else is reading the "nice box" as the microfiber-lined square one.

They did ditch the hard case for some of the bands purchased separately a while ago, but that's a different topic.

Series 0 aluminum models did come with a hard flat rectangular case with the plush inside. The Series 0 stainless steel models did come with a bigger square case. Same quality both of them.

Once you put the :apple:Watch on your wrist and walk out the door what does the box look like to you or others?o_O

I just bought a new modern buckle band and it came in a hard plastic, plush lined box - go figure. Yet my new Series 1 aluminum watch came in a cardboard box. And you're right - all these boxes are useless unless you want to resell the watch. Doubt anyone would buy a used leather band.

I can tell you that my Rolex Sub and Omega Speedy came with lovely boxes...

...that languish in a drawer untouched.

honestly, I could care less and for the overall impact to the environment I could do totally without it and let apple save the .60$ it cost to add it to the box.. plastic is getting VERY hard to recycle with oil prices this low.. paper, not so much an issue.

Purchasers of new Apple products will not. And buying the adapter separately costs more AND results in more packaging material used, so...

I actually really do appreciate that they don't include a large non-biodegradable plastic container, especially considering that the vast majority of Apple Watch users will not use it on any kind of regular basis. Reduces weight, reduces costs, reduces emissions, reduces landfill waste, etc. etc. Only inconvenience really is not having the same "wow" factor when first unboxing it. I completely forgot the Apple Watch even came with a plastic container since once I took out the box contents, I stashed it away in the closet.

I'm fine with the lack of a plastic box. I was talking about the lack of a wall plug. :)

The box was a nice touch in the tradition of thoughtful Apple packaging, and for horological fans to whom "box and papers" has meaning. Apple tried to position the Watch in that vein, but I think they've shifted away from that. I don't think most would notice or care anyway, and thus the packaging has changed.

Some may miss the wall adapter more, but it's probably unusual for a user to lack access to a USB port or other wall adapter nowadays, like the one bundled with the iPhone that a Watch user already has.

Personally, I'd rather pocket the $30 or whatever and put that toward a more useful multi-port adapter from a 3rd party of my choice. The cube adapters and iPad adapter I've accumulated along the way sit unused along with extra Lightning cables in their boxes. Single-port adapters are really kind of an anachronism now, when most people have multiple devices, and USB charging has become the standard.

If environmental concerns were such a priority, they'd go back to the unbleached cardboard they used during the PowerMac and PowerBook era.

I don't need one of those things personally, but I figure it puts the gift-givers in an awkward spot because you either pony up extra money to provide a wall adapter for your intended recipient, or the recipient has to go buy one for his/her self if indeed there's not an extra in their home.

Seems like a way to make money for Apple because the exclusion of the wall adapter makes the cost to the consumer for a Series 1 vs a Series 2 (Sport, for example) a mere 81 dollars difference in price, instead of the 100-dollar difference that one might think there is if one doesn't know the Series 1 doesn't come with a wall adapter and the Series 2 does.

;)

And it's reflected in the base price too. Series 0 aluminum models used to be $299/349 and the charging brick was included. Series 1 is $269/299 sans the charging brick (which has a retail value of $19). Apple didn't actually drop the price on the base models; they just removed the charging brick, shortened the charging puck cable, ditched the hard plastic case, etc.

My S0SSAW's (Series 0 Stainless Steel Apple Watch.. ha!) plastic box is in the closet, too, next to the box my Rado came in. My Seiko's box is in a drawer.

My Tag Heuer box is somewhere around here. It's pretty nice, but I really don't use it for anything. Not even storing my watch, which I pretty much never wear since I got my SS first gen AW last year.
