Again. Don't expect Apple or any carrier in the US to off you an unlocked iPhone during pre-order.

No, you just order from Apple.com, the sysem will determine the price that you pay. If it is full price, then you have the option to purchase at that price.

So if you are an existing AT&T, Verizon or Sprint customer you can pre-order from Apple or from your carrier.

Dave

Thank you very much!!

Seriously people need to pipe down. It's a phone that can't cook meals or wash your car. The iPhone is fast becoming a fashion assessory that people NEED to have to justify their ego.

Reminder: your friend, neighbour postman will also have. I see some people walking around with iPhones when that money whether contract or paid in full would of been better spent on some nice clothes.

Yes I will get the new phone cos I can but I won't be rushing.

I believe you can pre-order the iPhone for full price if you sign on with a carrier at first.

But no factory unlocked iPhones from the get go. At least.. I hope this is the case since I will be pre-ordering my iPhone but my contract with Verizon isn't up yet.

I'm in the same situation as you. My contract from AT&T isn't up yet either. So I will pre order from Apple.com.

Sorry, a bit confused!! If I have AT&T and want to stay with them and not get it unlocked and have to pay the full subsidized price, I still can't pre-order from apple.com right? Maybe i can from AT&T website!!

Thanks, Jerry

If you aren't eligible for an upgrade, I believe you can purchase it for the full price, but if you can purchase it with an upgrade, I think that the Apple website defaults to the subsidized price.

Trying to pre-order AND keep my unlimited data on Verizon

I have a Verizon iPhone 4S and I'm not eligible for an upgrade until June 2013. So... when I pre-order my iPhone5 on Sep 14th, I'll be paying full price (no discount).

I happen to have a grandfathered unlimited data plan with Verizon which I like to maintain on my new iPhone5.

My question is:
When I pre-order, does anyone know if my current service plan (with the unlimited data) will be maintained since I'll be paying full-price for the phone by virtue of the fact that I'm not currently eligible for an upgrade?

I'm just worried that the pre-order system will only offer me one of their new Share Everything plans, even though I'll be paying full price...

The information in this thread is now wrong. I spoke to an Apple rep today via phone after the keynote.

You can pre-order the full price iPhone through Apple. (different from unlocked however, it is not unlocked!)

Since you're buying the device full price you wont have any changes to your account at all.

You can get AT&T to unlock it, though.

Anyway, did the rep say how to order the full price phone? Last year it wasn't possible on the website since it asked for your login and defaulted to the subsidized price. Do you have to call in your order or will you be able to do it online?

Last year, when the Apple retail stores sold the full-priced AT&T models, they were unlocked. That's how I got mine a few weeks before the unlocked models went on sale.

Okay, great! Thanks for your information! :)

I don't really care if mine is unlocked or not (although I have heard that I can ask Verizon to unlock my phone if I've been with them for over 90days and I'm planning to travel outside the US, or something along those lines...).

As far as I know, unlocking CDMA phones, specifically Verizon, is near impossible.

It will be unlocked, but only for use outside the US. If you put in a T-Mobile or AT&T SIM, it won't work.

Yup, this is correct. I believe it's the same for in store. Not entirely sure.

You can pre-order and buy full price. Doesn't matter if it's AT&T or Verizon.

Update, just called apple care and it looks like, were getting conflicting reports whether you can or can not buy at full price on apple.com. She even spoke with her supervisor and she said that hasn't been determined yet. Just passing this along.

OK, let's try this again. You are not trying to purchase at full price. You are just upgrading your existing account with your existing carrier. In this case, the system will validate any discounts that you qualify for and offer you one of 3 price points. Full subsidy, Partial subsidy or Full price with a new two year commitment.

What has never been offered in the past via Apple.com is the ability to pick your own price during the pre-order cycle. So stay tuned and we will all have yet another full pre-order and overload all the servers trying thousands of combinations. :D
