Are you also proud of not picking your nose in public? I think having zero pirated applications is the norm.

Sorry for picking on you but I think it is attitudes like yours that perpetuate the piracy problem, as long as people, in some circles, think it is the exception to buy all their programs, then people believe it is socially acceptable to pirate programs.

In *some* circles? I don't know what world you live in, but I have the feeling that the non-pirating software users are in the minority. This especially goes for music. Analysts say that without music piracy, the MP3 player would've never become such a mainstream product as it is. On-line stores (like iTunes) would never have grown that fast. Just to point out the size and impact of piracy. (I'm not defending it)

I think it's pretty safe to say that if you've never pirated anything, you're in the minority and that it's NOT the norm.

Saying I'm proud of having zero pirated software on my computer perpetuates the problem? Hah - Calm down.

It's important to note that Apple has never required a license for its iLife suite, long delivered free on Macs, but also sold in a boxed version for preexisting Mac owners who want to upgrade. iLife has also never been available for download like iWork.
Dude, this is just plain incorrect. Apple's software is *always* covered by a EULA.

but does anybody actually use all the programs in the suite
Hmm I would say the only one I use heavily is Numbers. I switched from Excel to Numbers for all of my monthly budgeting a while back. I MUCH prefer Numbers. My tables look much more elegant and I like the flexibility it offers.

I use Keynote for all of my presentations for Work. I don't give too many presentations so I probably use it once a month.

I use Pages for all of my "personal" word processing. I use it when I need to write letters, have a personal document, etc. If I need anything for Work, I'll usually use Word. But I really can't stand Word so i'm trying to use Pages more...

Oh my god this thread is delusional, man.

You might be a little delusional yourself, man.

We've been using iWork since day one. Just because it hasn't had an impact on your particular world, doesn't mean it hasn't had one elsewhere.

What makes your argument truly annoying is that we could substitute "Mac" for "iWork" and get the exact same, ridiculous argument we've heard for decades about why nobody should use a Mac.

Keynote alone is worth the price of iWork. Why ever use PowerPoint ever again? You look x10 more professional just using Keynote.

I used to use a pirated version of Vista, Office, Quicktime Pro, ALL the Adobe products, and then I got the pirated version of the latest Nero. I have cleaned all those things off my computer (I know you're reading this at the FBI, my computer is clean now)
LOL. You know, it's funny. Five years ago I'd debate you to death on why I'd never in my right mind pay for any music or movies. Now, everything I have is from iTunes.

I guess it's funny how Apple works you. :apple:

I love Mac computers and use them everyday, but that does not mean that everything that has an apple stamped is great.
I am not saying you shouldn't use iWork. I just stated why it has no importance at all if there's a serial or not.
Please tel me exactly which one of my points is wrong. Maybe when I say "nobody" I should say "less than 5% of the people using computers".

By the way: how exactly can you even approach Excel with Numbers?. How many scientist, or anyone heavily using statistics and equations, you know are using Numbers over Excel?

You're changing your argument, which is fine if that's what you intended to do. Your earlier implication was clear, however.

Believe it or not, most people don't have any need for statistics or equations. In fact very few people have any real use for spreadsheets, period. The vast majority of Excel documents sent to me have no calculations in them whatsoever. It's become a crutch for making simple tables.

Intego are claiming there is a Trojan in a pirated iWork 09 installer.

http://www.intego.com/news/ism0901.asp

Just to warn anyone thinking this gives them a license to pirate it, maybe not a good idea.

Why would anyone download a torrent when they can download the trial from Apple then crack it using a simple terminal command?

Not that they should mind you, keep it legit people

Apple discounted iLife 09 to $29 for me

I bought 2 macbooks in early december so I missed the apple free upgrade cut off of Jan 6. I called customer support and asked if they could make an exception. The rep said she would ship me a hard copy for $29. Not free... but it's something.

I've known apple to be pretty flexible with this kind of stuff. I bought an imac last year and a faster one came out for the same price 40 days later. The guy at the store just told me to bring it back (without the box) he took a new one out of the box put my old one back in and I walked out the store.

That's the kind of customer respect that keeps people coming back!

The trojan that's going around is karma for those who decided to pirate their software!!!

Cool now its easier to dl off bittorrents

Not just pirates. Idiots. Do they (you) not realize (and I'm not saying to do this by any stretch of the imagination, so don't misunderstand me) but you can download a free trial off :apple:'s website, and then find a serial number and put it in, so it is guaranteed trojan free? I don't understand why you would do a torrent when it is a free download, and then find the serial, if you are that adamant about not paying for it.

Serials gets blacklisted sometimes, you know.

"It's too late for me, son" (deep breathing sound):). I purchased the "Kellogg's" variety pack:D (Mac Box set for SL, iLife '09 and iWork '09) last August.

I don't have a Mac yet... But on iWork, is Numbers pretty much the same as Microsoft Excel? How compatible are they(Excel and Numbers)? I know Pages and Word must be easy to transition from one to other, what about Keynote and Powerpoint?

I'll be going to a university that mostly deals with a lot of MS Office so I need to make sure iWord is better than Mac Office :)

iWork converts formats fairly well, but obviously has some issues here and there. Download the trial to see how it works for you.

So I downloaded the free trial, because i needed (at least) pages right away, even though i knew I would get a free copy paid for by my employer. But now even if I completely wipe my mac of any trace of Iwork before installing via DVD (the copy from work), it still asks me for a license key when I try to run any of the applications. Anyone know why this is or what can be done?

Firstly, why the hell are you digging up threads from 1 year and 2 months ago that you fail to read the first post! secondly you need to remove all the setting files? thirdly why are you posting a question here when it should be in the support part of the forum? dear god I wish there was execution of those who post stupid stuff to forums.

digging up threads from 2 months ago

Sorry to interrupt, but for the record the last post before today was Jan 31, 2009. so 1 year and 2 months ago.

So. . that part about not paying attention to dates/failing to read? yyeeeaaaahhhhhhh. . . . .

Sorry all, had to point that out. Continue. ^^

Made the correction; I was optimistic that maybe it was from this year, but holy sh-tballs, it's from 1 year and 2 months ago - a brutal and inhumane torture to death would be too good for frontmanbr at this point.

Read through the whole thread and saw lots of references to serial numbers (maybe needed for a trial pack upgrade) and queries about "phoning home" etc but no-one has mentioned the obvious check and phone home.

Software Update.
