I got a 6+ T-Mobile from the Apple store and it did not include a sim eject too. I got my sim cards out very easily with a bent paperclip - there was no damage to either my old phone or my new one.

It has nothing to do with AT&T. Apple stopped shipping the phones with the eject tool starting with the 5.

I don't think that's quite accurate. I think the 3G and 3GS might have had them. I've owned the original iPhone, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, and the iPhone 5s and I have never received a sim eject tool. I think whether one is included depends on which country the phone is bought from and possibly whether it was unlocked or not.

I recommend buying them off eBay. For a couple dollars you can get ten of them shipped to you.

I truly recommend getting a real sim eject tool.

The insert points have gotten smaller and smaller. Besides, the first couple iPhones, you need the sim eject tool or you will scratch up the area around the hole as it's such a tight fit with anything else (i.e. paperclip).

I did get one with my 3G ... not with any phone after that.

If I need to now, I simply use a paper clip ... works fine.

with ATT? thats pretty interesting, yeah paper clip works fine but when i go overseas you can find those pretty easily and cheap, and amazon has a bunch of them too.

you should get one, theres also packs that come with sim card adapters that you can use your old phones just in case. i have a great one, whether i have a micro, mini, i can use it with basically the 3G/S, 5/S, 6 (minus if you have a big chip to smaller).

it really does come in handy if you keep your older phones as back up

Yes - back in those days only AT&T sold iPhones.

For reference, my 6, bought from Spark in NZ, included the tool.

Edit: Forgot to mention that Spark supplies the SIM in its own little envelope; it's not "preinstalled" like AT&T ones.

I'm 99% certain my 5S bought from T-Mobile (not unlocked) came with a SIM eject tool. I was surprised not to see it with the 6+. I used a push-pin to swamp my SIM instead. I'll probably buy that pack of 10 just so I can have them handy in the future.

Picked up my iPhone 6 (not bought unlocked) this morning, came with a sim tool as previous years here in Denmark.

Yeah, apple stopped supplying them. I use either a spuger or a tool that won't scratch the finish.

I've not needed access to the SIM so it hasn't really been an issue, which may be why they stopped providing it, i.e., its not needed most of the time.

Ok I had to look up the word "sauger".

I am still confused.

Did you guys know the original sim tools were made out of liquid metal? If you have one try bending it, it is incredibly strong for its size.

Apple designed the SIM eject button specifically to work with a standard sized metal paper clip. It's a perfect fit and will not scratch your phone.

That said, it is best to avoid most colored paper clips. Most colored paper lips are produced by taking a metal paperclip and coating it with a thin layer of colored plastic. This colored plastic adds a slight amount of thickness to the paperclip, making it a much tighter fit (if it will even fit at all).

thoughts on this SIM eject tool ....

not true, as many other iPhone owners have received their tool in the box.

I believe they only ship the unlocked versions with the sim ejection tool now. Carrier locked models no longer ships with them. I can't remember if they ever did.
Not true also, I have bought an unlocked iPhone 6 from US, and it didn't have the tool ..

... and how to you insert your SIM? magic?

The sim eject tool does make it easier if you dont have a paperclip in front of you . Seems cheap to not include one in every iphone
totally agree: the phone is big bucks .. the tool is merely cents .. I mean .. come on ...

Agreed: my colleagues have bought the new iPhone from UK and all of their phones came with a sim tool.
Mine is from the states, and it does not have it ..

Forget the SIM tool. Bring back the included charging dock.
word!

Would you turn down an extra $1 million in your pocket?

Five cents saved on each of 20 million phones sold is big bucks for most people.

Especially since in the US very few people ever change out their phone SIM; and of those who do, I'd venture to say most are already in the new carrier's shop to get the SIM and the carrier employee changes it out for them. The relatively rare person who changes it on their own can typically find a simple paper clip already in their desk drawer.

. . .

I would take one cent from you right now if it was free.

I hear your point.. but still, it seems a bit extreme for Apple to do such a thing to save some bucks.

Interesting how now this is the yearly question when it used to be the only one speaker works problem. Apple redesigned the speaker grill to eliminate that question. Maybe they could leave a note that says they will sell you one for only $2.99 + tax and shipping. That would eliminate any questions.....

I understand. I imagine it's pretty frustrating to need to change the SIM, be used to having a tool included, and find there isn't one.

I think Apple simply took a look at the US market and realized how few people ever used the thing. The vast majority of phones are purchased via subsidy or installment plan from the carrier the buyer will be using and already has whatever SIM is needed installed at purchase. Very few US owners will ever want/need to put in a different SIM during the time they own the phone.
