I work on Canal between Washington & Randolph and service is either hit or miss on some days. I've watched my phone go from 3G to Edge to no service back to 3G to Edge to no service all in 30 seconds.

I work at Wacker & Adams - right across from the Sears Tower & Union. For the past 2 years I've had HORRIBLE speeds on my 3G. I don't even try to load anything while not on wifi. I'm on the 30th floor. Even when I'm outside it sucks.

As soon as I take the train back to naperville, everything works fast again.

Thanks for all the observations. I think I'll wait until I get to my 14 day window then exchange it.

This aint good.

I'm heading back on the 10th for family stuff and ugh...if my signal craps out, all my friends with other carriers will just laugh................again.

Having the same problem, at Monroe/State, just got the phone. Old 3G worked fine earlier today, now I cant even get on to the app store. Good Times.

i used to work at 20 N. Clark (Clark and Madison) and speeds on my 3GS were similar to what you are describing at times - either slow or no data but then some days it would be great.

It was a crapshoot really, however, I would say that more often than not I would get very usable service so I think that it is worth looking into getting a replacement from Apple.

AH! i think this explains a lot...

It works great everywhere except right in the heart of the loop it seems. So unless your family lives in an office building you should be OK.

Anybody else in the loop seem to have a battery that's depleting relatively quickly? I have 5 bars on 3G but data speeds are almost zilch. Trying to figure out what the deal is. I always plugged my 3G iphone in after 3 pm, but trying not to do that with my new phone.

Definitely. Since it take 20 times as long to do anything it has to work a lot harder. The battery issue is directly related to the slow data issue.
