No, it’s more work to include the notch. Because they’re already superimposing the contents of the display. However adding the notch makes it more difficult because imperfections in the tracking/keyframing would be more obvious with a jittering notch on an iPhone display.

I do this kind of work professionally.
Agreed. Guessing this happened on a post overlay, because Apple's team makes very clear that the screen shown must match the model used. (I'd guess they'd also take objection to altering the physical design by applying the overlay in this manner, but stuff happens).

Also, Apple does not provide pre-release products for use as product placement on media productions — even their own — and they never would because 100 random people on the crew would have access to the design. Those are not Apple employees, and while the crew themselves are still bound by confidentially agreements required by the producers, film sets are much more casual affairs than Apple's design labs. There are any number of people running in and out, many of whom may not even be employed by the production at all (i.e. family members, personal assistants, etc). At that point, Apple may as well just upload the design directly to the internet.

I work production for film and TV. Although I have never worked on an apple commercial or tv show, I know many who have, and I have worked on sensitive sets like Marvel productions and the like. I can tell you that Apple is famous for being very strict with security on sets. They will take your phone at the start of the day and either check it, or put a security sticker over your cameras or simply not let you near set with your phone. Also, before COVID, those productions typically didn't allow visitors like family or friends who don't work on the production anywhere near set. Now every production is like that. To be allowed on set you have to have been tested twice and have negative results and submit to testing 3-4 times per week. Those tests cost money and they aren't just going to test family members for free just so they can come visit. I have heard from people who work on those sets and they tell me that they do get unreleased designs sometimes, but security is very high when they do. But most people on film crews are very professional and take their job seriously when it comes to NDAs or the privacy of the actors. You can be fired pretty quickly if it gets out and you will find it hard to get a job on another production.
