I just wish they made the sides matte on all models, whatever the material used.
Here’s mine

I really wish we get titanium, if it still remains steel it’ll be an even heavier brick.
I disagree that aluminum is better.
No way.
I have steel on watch and phone and it’s way better than aluminum when it comes to durability. Brushed finish is my preference and that’s easy to accomplish with some grit.

Not just aluminum. 7000 series Aluminum. It is not only better. It is far better. By a wide margin. It’s not even close, as I explained in a earlier post. SS only benefit is it’s density being more dent resistant. That’s about it. Your phone has a case on it so that point is moot. My Watch is SS because I don’t have a case on it. Other than that 7000 series aluminum is superior in every other metric. As I explained earlier. It is a more premium metal, SS is far cheaper for a reason. There is a reason we use it in the Aerospace industry.
If you want to know more please read my earlier posts. Saying SS is better than 7075 aluminum is like saying a Chevy is better than a Mercedes. SS is typically used when dent resistance is needed and you want to reduce cost and don’t care about weight. Which is the opposite of what Apple should be doing for a phone. A watch yes, phone no.

Are you disappointed that there will be no Titanium pro models this year?

Are you tired of the weight and wish they would use a more premium metal since it is a pro model. 7000 series aluminum is a far more premium metal than SS. Most think otherwise. I haven’t used a pro model since the 11 pro due to the weight. I prefer the more premium 7000 series metal used in the non pro models.

Stainless steel serves little purpose in a phone, zero actually. The 7000 series aluminum is durable enough for almost anyone outside a hydraulic press. There is a reason Samsung, Oneplus, and every phone manufacturer other than Apple use it. Weight. Apple just ignores this because their Apple.
Aluminum also conducts heat way better. Stainless steel not so much. Hardness is closer than people think. Scratch resistance will be similar to both. Benefit of steel you can buff them out, aluminum no. There are benefits to using steel, I just think 7000 aluminum has more. I would prefer they use it in the pro models as it is very similar to Titanium.
I have a stainless steel Apple Watch but I like the added weight and the sapphire. In a phone not so much. Gotta love Apples marketing.

I choose option 3: I don‘t mind really.

Nah. No case on my phone.
I’d pick steel over aluminum, titanium over steel.
Aluminum is not durable. It also shows the silver under the color when scratched/dinged.

Yes I am disappointed as it mens it still weighs as much as a brick whilst still being the size of a brick. Ditching the steel chassis for titanium would have had a real impact on the weight. But you never know they may very well release a titanium model as analysts and supposed leaks have been totally wrong before.

The market speaks for itself. If it were economically viable, consumer electronics manufacturers would be using Ti everywhere a long time ago.

Just because Ti is used by Airbus and Boeing doesn't mean it's economically feasible for a mass produced consumer electronics device.

The only electronics manufacturer for whom it makes sense to use titanium at scale is Apple.

They dominate the high end and have much higher margins than the rest of the industry, and using titanium would fit right in with that market positioning.

Going big on titanium wouldn't make sense for any of the other large but much lower-margin players, with the possible exception of Samsung.

Given that this year's iPhone Pro is even heavier than last years (from 145g to 155g), no, I don't think titanium is coming for the 14 Pro. However, I think it is really needed, and I think Apple should make everything on their hands to make that change possible for the iPhone 15 Pro. The Pro lineup is getting excessively heavy, and that's a turn off for many potential customers -like myself- who will, instead, buy the ones with an aluminum frame.

I would want either Aluminum or Plastic to be honest but I realize that probably won’t happen. I just like phones as light as possible.
