I am waiting for it, I am fine with my current Mac PRo but that would make for a nice jump in performance.

Dude, why not just buy the current model then trade up when the mythical Nehalem Mac Pro does actually rear its head?

Took around 18 months to move to Penryn... hopefully the next model will come out in a more timely matter, but you're missing out on the best of today for no real reason.

Note: MacBook Pros are due for their last revision before a major chipset change occurs in Montevina too, why isn't that putting you off getting one?

Your problem is why they developed eBay. Buy the latest Mac Pro then in a year or two....sell it and upgrade. ;)

I'm waiting for the $699 Mac Pro replacement for the Mini.
The difference between what you're waiting for and what we're waiting for is that ours will actually happen.

Seriously guys, I think we're a little defensive from the whiners and actual trolls. The guy's going to be buying a new laptop. The new Mac Pro is fine, but the next one coming out is going to be mush better and he can wait. I don't blame him. I hate it when people come in here complaining of "fanbois", let's not give them fodder. ;)

PS: the main reason I'm not upgrading is because my current system is already awesome. :)

Yeah, I don't get why everyone's being so harsh either. I could see if it was a rant, or even a complaint, but since you're getting a portable, can't say I blame you.

I think it's because we're all tired of the "Should I buy now or wait" and the "I'm officially wait for..." type threads.

Why do people feel the need to inform the world that they're not buying something:confused:

why does everyone have to use some variant of the word 'official' in the title of their threads

It's from the same mentality as when people start every sentence with the words 'at the end of the day' or 'basically', or say 'totally and utterly' before describing something

Basically I agree with you but I am totally and utterly excited about the prospect Nehalem presents so at the end of the day I think it is worth waiting.

Bored at work :). Couldn't resist.

I don't know. I (for one) am pretty weary about buying the first of any Nehalem MacPro, especially for one that abolishes the FSB. I'd rather buy the latest mac pro now (especially if its the last in its technology), then think about buying the first Nehalem Mac Pro. I'd rataher let Apple/Intel/whoever work out the kinks from the Nehalem move (remember, Pentium had kinks when it was introduced), give them a year or so, and then consider buying the Nehalem. Sure, it'll be a great product, but I'm sure when it comes to v2 of that line, Apple will do things a bit differently (even if very small) to help make it work.

Just a thought.

This is why I am just now buying my Mac Pro and was a huge reason for waiting till this new revision (and what an agonizingly long wait it was). Revision 1's on new hardware are often buggy and have issues. I made the mistake of buying a rev. 1 Powermac when the new ones came out and battled all sorts of annoying bugs (like the video freezing if you ran full 3D for more then 2 hours and had a specific version video card. . . the one apple shipped of course.)

I won't be looking at nehalem until rev. 2.

I'm very happy with my 2007 Mac Pro; I maxed out the RAM (16GB) and it does everything I need for it to do. So, I''ll happily wait a few years til I upgrade. No biggie. Be happy with what ya got, I say.

If you're are holding out for Nehalem, you are going to be waiting awhile... you think apple is going to adopt a new architecture with a flip of a switch once released? I think not... I would guess its at least a year+ out before Apple even considers Nehalem... Plus, I would be shocked if you were bottlenecked by anything in the new Mac Pro, especially if you can work on a laptop. Also, how do you know what life is like without a FSB? I think you are buying into way too much hype.

If you can't jump now, you're never gonna jump...
