TVOS 16 was not accounted today. However I did see pictures of the appleTV during the keynote. Hmm… Anyone?

I told you before on a couple of your ATV threads that Apple doesn't seem to care about tvOS or the Apple TV.

I wish it wasn't so, and Apple hasn't given me any reason to think otherwise.

If they completely did not care they would not have shown pictures of the appleTV box in the keynote.

The level at which Apple cares about tvOS and the ATV is shown by them ONLY having photos of it and not talking about it.

IDK, maybe I am wrong, and Apple will have a follow up event all about the Apple TV. I doubt it though.

I doubt it as well. But they probably will have a TVOS 16.

And it will most likely look like tvOS 15, considering that there has barely been any major changes to tvOS since tvOS 9.

Hopefully, I am wrong.
What more can they do????? I mean it’s good already just got some bugs. Maybe they are out of ideas on what to do?

What more can they do?????
Home automation
Adding a Safari Browser
Announcing bigger commitment to gaming
Bundled Apple Controller
Landscape FaceTime
FaceTime integration with an iPhone or other Apple device, or add-on camera
Announce larger storage options
Easy connection to Hotels' Wifi feature (a web browser would work as well if there was one)
Choose what Aerials are shown
Allow for instant downloads of chosen Aerials
Better storage management and being able to see what the static storage space is taken
VPN support
I can name more if you would like....

They already support captive portals but it works by displaying it on your phone. Which is probably a problem for people who don't have iPhones.
Yeah, I know about this, and I think you can use a Mac and iPad as well, but not the same thing as having it ready to go in the tvOS.

VPN support
This would certainly be great but I doubt they would do that.
You are probably right, but @jwolf6589 asked what more Apple can do with tvOS, and that would be something big that they could easily do.

Other streaming boxes have VPN support, so maybe one day.

tvOS 16 – new features

In Apple's own words:
Game Controller Many additional Bluetooth and USB game controllers are supported by the Game Controller framework on macOS 13, iOS 16, and tvOS 16 and later.
Cross-device connectivity Integrate your tvOS app with your iOS, iPadOS, or watchOS app to unlock new experiences on Apple TV. For example, you can deliver more personalized workouts on Apple TV based on motion sensor data from Apple Watch, display real-time information on iPhone while media plays in your app on Apple TV, or include more screens for gameplay.
Multiuser support Make it easier for people to enjoy your Apple TV app with improved system integration for user profiles. With credentials stored in a shared keychain, users won’t need to sign in and choose their profile every time they launch your app.
SwiftUI for tvOS Customize your app’s interface and provide even more functionality with SwiftUI. Create custom button styles and effects that accent your design, take advantage of standard gestures, such as Tap and Touch, and add consistency to interactions with the Focus APIs.
Create ML framework Create ML is now available as a Swift framework on tvOS, along with iOS, iPadOS, and macOS. In addition to task-specific training APIs being available for many common model types, you can now define your own custom model and training pipelines by combining a rich set of ML building blocks with the new Create ML Components framework.

Nothing that interests me in any of that, not that I expected much to begin with. Hopefully they fixed a few bugs. As far as that goes, none of the OSes they are updating seem to have anything new that is worthy of catching my attention. I'll be happy if they just fix bugs!

Some think that HDR10+ may be added as it’s going to be supported in iOS 16.

More storage options?? 32GB and 64GB are fine for most people.
Safari browser on a TV screen?? Nah..

Facetime? Yeah that would be a good one but the ATV needs a camera.

For just streaming? Sure, but if Apple wants the ATV to be more than just an overpowered, but overpriced streaming box, they will need more storage.

Apple added Apple Arcade to tvOS, and it takes less than 6 large games from AA to fill a 32GB ATV, and about a dozen to fill a 64GB. This leaves some room for the OS, the one required Aerial SS, and a little for additional assets needed for some games.

Other streaming devices and gaming consoles have browsers, no good reason tvOS shouldn't. Just because you wouldn't use something, definitely doesn't make it a bad thing.

acetime? Yeah that would be a good one but the ATV needs a camera.
Every iPhone that is currently on the market has a camera. Why not use that.

It works now with AirPlay, but for some dumb reason, Apple won't allow landscape FaceTime on tvOS.

Apple could also add a remote camera for the ATV and other Apple devices.

but the ATV needs a camera.
The M1 Mac Mini doesn't have a camera either, but it does FaceTime just fine.
