I don’t want Safari on my appleTV!

Nobody wants ALL of the apps available for AppleTV on their AppleTV. Don't want an app, don't install it. Others may very much want some apps you don't desire... and vice versa. That's the beauty of choice and app stores.

Several of the most popular apps for tvOS are not installed on my AppleTVs. I'm glad they exist for those who do want to use them... even if I do not.
I agree.

I never understood that type of attitude, and it seems to be very common on this forum.

"If I don't like it then that means no one should like it!"

Reminds me of the people on the forum that are happy when Apple removes an app or feature to their OS, even though having it there never has any impact on their experience. The Network Utility being removed a few years ago is one example that I remember. The removal of SW RAID Management in Disk Utility was another. Dropping support for 32bit apps was another. MagSafe removal on the 2016 MBP.

I can understand being indifferent, but to actually celebrate it is just strange to me.

Anyways, I would love to have Safari on tvOS. It has been on my tvOS wishlist since the launch in 2015. But, like others, I have my doubts if it will ever happen.

This is probably not a big deal for most people, but I would love a "Apps to be updated" section, kind of like what IOS and MacOS has. If you choose not to have apps automatically updated, you need to search each app in the store to see if they need an update. I would much rather have that all in one place.

I also would like the ability to delete apps, like Files and Computer. I don't understand what they are doing on Apple TV.

To me anyway, Computer is a very useful app on AppleTV. It's basically the ORIGINAL AppleTV purposes folded into a single app... which is not dependent on subscriptions, rentals and purchases through AppleTV but leaning on your own collections of media ripped and imported into (iTunes back then, but now) Music and TV apps on your computer.

It makes all of your owned media easily playable on AppleTV. For example, rip your CD collection and all of that music and those playlists are available via Computers. Rip your BDs/DVDs and all of those videos are available via Computers. Photo collection in Photos. Digitized home movies stored in TV app. Etc. Computers (app) is the "hub" app for easy access to ALL of that... without needing to pay a nickel to streaming services or iCloud, etc.

For my purposes anyway, it's my second most-used app, right behind the terrific Channels app, which basically makes AppleTV my cable and over the air tv channel boxes.

But that shared, I completely agree that if someone would like the ability to delete ANY of the tvOS apps, they should have that ability. I have several stock apps that I've simply put into a folder and dragged to the bottom of the apps screen... a kind of junk folder of apps I doubt I will ever use but can't seem to delete.

I tried that this morning and it did not work, but yes that is how to do it and I have just tried again and it is now downloading. Cheers.
Is beta testing for anyone or just those signed up for beta testing? If the latter, I wouldn't expect it to do anything, except maybe tell you to sign up as a beta tester. Personally, I encounter enough tvOS bugs in their released versions, I really don't want to see the hoards of new ones they are certain to release in the betas...

Will tvOS 16 support A10X Fusion? I have the 2017 Apple tv 4k 32gb.
I would think so. Performance wise, the A10X is about on par with the A12 in the ATV4K2

Not saying it is a rule or anything, but iPadOS 16 runs on the 2017 iPad Pro which is the only other device that has the A10X.

Anyone can sign up for the public testing, developers are invitation only (unless you are a developer). My lip sync is so bad now I have reverted to using a FiresStick to watch content. The sync issue isn’t a iOS 16 issue. I have a second one that is connected to a tv via HDMI and that is fine, but one is connected to HomePods for sound and that is the one that has sync issues.

Does Wireless Audio Sync not resolve the sync issues?
By all accounts providing you run it on all the frame rate & dynamic range combinations your setup uses it’ll cover all content you may be watching.

Hi, no it is terrible. The FireStick is spot on too using the audio return channel function, to the HomePods.

I second:
- FaceTime with some kind of camera addition.

I also want:
- Handoff videos to/from other Apple devices
- a dashboard screen that shows the day’s weather, my appointments/tasks, news, etc.
- display info from HomePod Siri if requested
- different sets of screensavers (aerials, photo albums, etc.) that I can switch between by asking HomePod Siri
- support 4k HDR lossless video/audio via Home Sharing (this is probably a wireless protocol thing)

This! It would be great for them to add this into the App store. Its so annoying having to find an app that needs updating as usually apps don't get auto updated for a few days.

I'd also like the screensavers to support match frame rate. Having my ATV4K set to 50hz because i'm in the UK, the screensavers skip and appear jumpy. Annoying!

There isn’t really much of a reason to be using 50Hz, in the the majority of cases most of the apps that require 50Hz support match frame rate.
Just set to 60Hz(59.94) and everything will be much better.

You dont need to set it to 50Hz in the UK, as all the LED panels we get actually support 60Hz modes aswell.
