To "deep six" is slang meaning, basically, to get rid of something, to abandon, possibly to willfully kill off (in the sense of a project, program or an effort, not literally to kill somebody).

It's similar, but not the same thing as, to "eighty-six" something.

I don't know about anyone else, but I'd always assumed that phrase was essentially global in it's reach.

It was going to be global in it's reach. But someone found out, and they ordered the deep six of it....

Deep sixing

For me ZFS was going to be the thing that properly made leopard "next generation" without it the improvements whilst taking us forward are not "all that !".

Also can someone tell me what deep sixing is ? We don't have this phrase in england and if i were to guess it's meaning it wouldn't be printable :)

When someone is buried, they are put "6 feet under"....therefore deep sixing is basically saying it is dead
