It picks up on the microphones when recording video.

Are you people shaking your phones frantically while shooting video, or recording voice memos?

I just shook mine, and it does have a rattle to the power button, but I had never noticed it until I listened specifically for it. The case I have on reduces the rattle somewhat, but even without a case it is barely noticeable unless the phone is 2 inches from my ear, and even then I have to really shake it to hear any rattle. I doubt it would be loud enough to cause a noticeable problem while shooting video, or recording a memo, or to actually hear it while you are driving.

You would never shake your phone near your ear anyways so I don't see how it's a problem at all.

I can hear it clearly from my hand. The only reason it had to be brought to the ear was because it was a very noisy store.

I heard it when I put my phone down for the very first time. That's when I noticed it. But everyone is different. If I tap my home button (not pressing it - but simply resting my finger on it) I can hear the noise as my finger taps the button. If I tap my finger on the button repeatedly I hear it veryyyy clearly, and I would say it is quite loud. Certainty anyone within 8 feet of me would hear it, type of loudness.

Here is a video of the noise in a car

Of course it sounds even worse in quiet surroundings

Aluminum is pretty cheap. It is a weak material at the thickness used in most alloys. Don't kid yourself. Aluminum is being used by apple to keep the phone affordable to all demographics.

The thread is about shoddy QC and design. There are many threads here and elsewhere complaining of the same issues. Some people are even bending the frames of their phones with some moderate pressure that other phones would take in stride. Early reports are that the 5s is wearing just as fast as the dumpy 5.

I went back ad forth on the 5s /5c for nearly 2 weeks. The 5s feels cheap because it is cheaply desinged and built. It has awesome components, but packaged in a weak and shoddy case.

The 4s is your reference for quality construction.

Yeah mine is nowhere near that bad, you can barely hear it. I will make a video later and test it, but i doubt it's going to make a difference, even moving the phone around quickly doest make the button rattle, I have to actually shake the phone very fast to get it to rattle, which I will not do while recording. I'm not saying your's isn't loud, but mine is barely noticeable. Anyway I have Applecare, so if it starts to get on my nerves I can always return it.

Good deal. I'll be waiting till Wednesday for T-Mobile's next shipment of "potentially new 32GB models". If they don't get any new 32GB models, I'll be doing one more replacement (my second - so third phone), and will live with it if it still has a problem. If it does have the problem, I'll use that excuse to get it replaced at my apple store approximately 364 days after I bought the phone, and then sell it like new before the iPhone 6 comes out ;P

Tbh though my main reason for going so hard is because I hate the clicking home button. I would even take my first phone back over this one with the loud click :\

Yeah my home button is not loud at all, and I honestly don't see the power button causing an issue, unless it actually falls off, in which case thats what Applecare is for.
