Nokia would be lost among the crowd if they went with Android.
You already have several premium phone makers (HTC, Samsung, Motorola) using the platform already.

The move would scream "Me too!"

Well why not meego then? Its not android and they had nothing going on with M$

My question is why not android

Elop is former MS I think.

Believe a Google exec Tweeted about Nokia/MS together "Two turkey do not make an eagle.". Doesn't seem like a good place to land.

IMO, the market is pretty well covered for Android devices. There's a bit of a risk no matter which way you're going, but I can understand wanting to jump in with MS on this one.

I think some analysts are betting that Nokia is going to start focusing more of its attention on emerging markets where they are already doing okay business at this time. Areas that haven't been dominated by Apple or Android products yet. This is probably appealing to both Nokia and MS.

You really are a silly, prejudiced Republican, aren't you?
The very same 'socialist' mindset actually created the biggest and most successful cellphone company in the 90s. And then they chose the wrong path.

Before you use big words like 'socialism', please educate yourself before you use them. It's always the same with you tea baggers. Ignorance is bliss.

And discontinue Section-8 housing while we are at it. Those that can only survive by theft and malice will be killed when breaking and entering into armed houses or trying to rob armed individuals. Society will take care of itself.

Nokia Deal struck with Microsoft

So Nokia has jumped aboard the Windows Phone 7 ship.
The BBC are reporting that the Finnish sauna dwellers have hitched their Moose to the Redmond outfit's mobile OS.

Steve Ballmer and Stephen Elop announced the tie-up, and effective burying of Symbian, in London this morning.

When questioned about it, Elop did say this would not bury Meego or Symbian. Though he wasn't clear just how Nokia and Windows will work together with Meego, Symbian, and W7 all in the same boat. So yeah, this is pretty much the end of Symbian and what's the point of finishing up Meego now.

I think slides here make it perfectly clear:

Symbian is dead. Elop is just interested in stringing along developers while the transition occurs. Meego is remains for now as a hobby project.

If I were a Symbian developer, I wouldn't be hanging around, I would ditch it and go to iOS/Android.

Coup for MS, but I see this accelerating the demise of Nokia. RIP.

As a consumer I like this environment: Nokia and Microsoft now HAVE to innovate.

For years many of us were frustrated with Microsoft software and Nokia phones - it is difficult to be sympathetic (although now they are starting to look like the underdogs I would like to see them to succeed - but in a fresh new direction iOS and Android are not taking).

Honestly, the only innovation I see here is buying something cool developed outside their respective introverted eco-systems or breaking up into smaller companies before the market eats them alive. Either way, "triple middles" (that is middle class, middle age, middle manager) will be purged and those that matter are better off.

Why can't Nokia continue with:

1. Symbian
2. Windows
3. Android

...............
at the same time.

When Samsung starts Bada from 0 .... it looks like nonsense from Nokia.:(

What Nokia did can prove to be a huge success......

This is going to be a great partnership. The world's leading phone manufacturer with an awesome OS. It will get better and better. Just look at iOS. When it was released it was laughable and now it is rockin. What is the point of being so disappointed? Just give it some time and we will definitely see success.

I think Nokia has the license to customize WP7 now, which is a good thing. Actually, they claim they'll be working in partnership with MS to that purpose. So, I'm already assuming that the WP7 OS we'll find on Nokia phones will be to some degree different (albait compatible, I really hope) from the one on other hardware producers.

I also think it will be quite likely we'll see other features I can't really understand why are currently missing in WP7, such as thetering and Sync with Outlook.
In other words, I think this degree of exclusivity may be enough to generate that uniqueness that is indeed needed to compete against the iPhone.

How old are you? You're gushing like a 12 year old girl on her first date with Ken! If you want to know how clever MS are at mobile operating systems, look at the Facebook page for Kin. I warn you, it's sad.
