Are you sure? So if I buy a WM7-phone in e.g. France and it comes with French language, I may change the system language to English if I want to? You see, that was one of my major issues with WM 6.5 and I would hate to experience that again.

What makes you think I don't know how to keep up with newer versions, and why is it even relevant? WM 6.5 probably had its improvements over WM 6.1, which was better than WM 6, which was even better than WM 5, and so on. WM 7 can't be that much better than 6.5, at least I won't assume it is until I have tried it myself.

When I got my iPhone, it was before WM 7 came out, and I have no reason to even try WM again until my iPhone is worn out and I have to get a new phone anyway.

Common sense dictates that one should not bad mouth a product using an old OS, giving the impression that Windows 7 7.5 out now is bad, but to read up on the newest version first to see what others have said, than post or not post at all. No one is going to buy the old OS windows that you mentioned, but WM 7 so your experience with 6.5 is mute ;)

Here is the thing, there isn't a WM7. There is a Windows Phone 7. Windows Mobile stopped at 6.5. And no, I am not saying this to be a smarta$$ I am saying it to point out the WP7 is a brand new OS built from the ground up. It is literally NOTHING like windows mobile was. If I had to compare it to something I would say it is MOST similar to iOS, but even that is a bit of a stretch. If you live in a place where you can go to a phone shop and play with the phone, I highly recommend that you do it. The instant you play with the UI you will realize that this is nothing like the windows mobile you (we all) hated so much.

Well said! Anyone that would even think that WM and WP are similar in any way is totally out of touch and clearly knows nothing about the WP platform. I agree WP is buttery smooth and a great platform.

I used a Nokia Lumia 800 for a month. Couldn't go back to my iPhone 4. It's really fast and the build quality is on par with HTC One X. You don't know anything about build quality.

Man, how you can say its better than the iPhone 4/4S is beyond me.

I owned one and sold it, went back to my iPhone.

The screen is dreadful with its pentile matrix display.

Whites are rarely white, more pink or grey. It has line bleed and that weird blue tint off centre. Everything is grainy, you can see it best on the battery indicator.

The camera is just dreadful.

The sound quality is awfull. No bass at all and SQ is rubbish.

The phone only vibrates a couple of times and then rings with no vibration. Coupled with its weak speaker, it guarantees you miss calls.

Not to mention that WP7 is just meh.

I didn't have the speaker, vibrate, and missed calls issues you did.

Didn't have issues with sound quality, but admittedly I only really listen to music as a ringtone. I never watch movies, games, or play music over the speakers. Many people do, and this annoys me.

The camera was inferior to the 4S, but "dreadful" is a bit too harsh of a description, for me. It's about on par with many of the competitor's cameras, and even better than some.

The screen was a sore spot, but mostly because of the resolution. Unfortunately that's a WP7 limitation right now. WP8 should tackle this issue (and was the biggest reason I didn't stick with the phone... we will likely have a much better screen in less than a year)

WP7 is basically a marriage between android and iOS features for me. only the most frequently used apps should be placed as tiles on your home screen. Everything else can easily be searched or found in the apps list (much like android). Everything is right at your fingertips. I didn't appreciate not being able to easily replace google as my default search engine, but bing did perform well. The pitfall is in the apps; they are virtually non existent. As an OS I found it to be fine, but without a decent app catalog it is destined to fail IMO.

Is that so? Well, then I might consider it sometime. I might have been a bit hasty to compare it with WM 6.5, which seemed like an obvious thing to do although they changed the name (after all, they kept the numbers). I did the same mistake with OS X back in the days, i.e. underestimating its capabilities because of my terrible experience with earlier operating systems from Apple.

Anyway, the sluggishness of the OS and the UI were only parts of the reason why I disliked WM 6.5. On top of it all came the fact that I couldn't even change system language without installing a different version of WM and either pay $$$ for the new license or break the EULA with Microsoft.

I cannot comment on system language since I didn't have the need to play around with it, though I would suspect you can change it to whatever is supported. Again, I wouldn't know what languages are currently supported.

EDIT: Based on THIS VIDEO it seems you can change languages pretty easily.

As for the numbering system, I certainly agree with you there. My thinking is they wanted it to match Windows 7 (but it consequently ended up sounding like a successor to Windows Mobile 6.5). Windows Phone 8 will be launching close to when Windows 8 launches, which further solidifies my suspicions, at least in my mind.

WP is far from sluggish, this I can guarantee. If you like the smoothness of iOS, WP7 will not disappoint. As I had mentioned, the resolution was the sore spot for me. Any phone you get now will have the resolution of yesterdays phones because that is all that WP7 currently supports, unfortunately. I am certainly eager to try out the higher resolution WP8.

Oh, ok. I'll check that video then. I live in a country where English is not the official language, and WM phones are delivered with the language of that country. All I wanted was to use it in English, which turned out to be a big problem. This was not because the English language was not supported (heck, it was probably in English at the very first), but because of Microsoft's rigorous licensing-regime.

Not really. The task switcher on iOS is much better than WP version IMO.Also I forgot about the apps. The quality of apps on iOS are much better than WP7(I tested facebook, twitter, angry birds, fruit ninja etc.)
Also the call quality was terrible on the Titan(A lot of users have this issue);furthermore, when the battery reach 20% or lower, the capacitive buttons stopped responding(sometimes).
Overall,I prefer iOS but everyone has a different idea.

The AT&T Titan did apparently have some staggering issues, but the international one is superb. As you say though, everyone is entitled to their own opinion of what the best OS is.
