why would they switch so suddenly from motorola to nokia. i didn't even realize nokia was still around.

I'm quite stunned by your comment. You don't get out much, do you?

Nokia is one of the most popular brands in the world, especially Europe - where the cell phone market is way more advanced that the north American market. ( north american market is quite pathetic ).

Another fact you may find interesting: Nokia, is the number one smartphone, and its not based on microsoft or palm.

Soo... it stands to reason why Apple would get Nokia in on the act.... Nokia, more popular ( worldwide - an important fact - the usa is not the world, despite popular belief amongst you lot ) than Moto.. so do the maths. Simple.

Its not a switch... from Moto to Nokia, its an addition.

Well, I'm a S60 fan so this would suit me down to the ground.

This may be wishful thinking (the advert does look pretty fake), but I can half believe it too. Apple want to form a partnership with a mobile manufacturer, and the relationship with Moto is collapsing for several reasons. SonyEricsson are out because of their links with iPod rival Walkman. Nokia is the next logical choice.

This all well and true but have you looked at the compatibility of Nokia phones with OSX compared to that of Sony Ericsson phones. It just doesn't give you the impression that they are working together all that closely. Nokia do make good phones but over the years have neglected technology and haven't put things like bluetooth into their phones....WHY? you have to wonder.

I wouldn't be surprised if SonyEricsson surprised everyone due to the fact that they have 2 very interesting phones about to be launched the W950i and M600i which will both have touch screen interfaces. The W950i is also going to have 4gb flash memory and the ability to have album art. All this is also running on the symbian platform. Sony don't have a desktop interface for music that is popular so I can see them using iTunes to interface with their phone.

Um, my Nokia phone has Bluetooth, and it works well. I never got the impression that Nokia used Bluetooth throughout their range any less than their competitors. On the contrary... have you tried to do anything useful with Bluetooth with a Blackberry Charm?

I do like some of the newer SonyEricsson phones. However, I have never tried to used a one with a Mac. I'd love to give it a go, I doubt I'll get the opportunity.

Good theory. Although, Sony would probably insist on ATRAC support, which probably wouldn't go down well with Steve.

really? do i have to? It just my opinion. The Motorola interface to me is very slow and poorly made. I had one and the menus took time to load and the whole layout just was weird to me. Plus the send button is on the other side of the phone (its cool to be different). Nokia has always been very pleasing to me. Very easy to use.

I think he didn't mean "own" in a literal sense. It was more like "Nokia 0wNz Motorola".

too bad the S60s are PDA/Cell phone combinations.

i still like my SLVR a lot better...cause first it's from motorola and second it's so sleek!

many complain about the 100 song cap but that's 7 hours! and i only listen to the songs over and over again anyways.

moto all the way.

"moto is so loco"

Mmm.. Spitfire is right to an extent. Bluetooth is missing from some really quite surprising Nokia Models. Such as (from memory) the 7260, which was out well after BT became mainstream.

I definitely think that this pic is a fake, but it doesn't mean I wouldn't love to see it. I use a BlackBerry because of work, and I miss my Nokia every single day. I was so bummed when Apple teamed up with Motorola on the ROKR. Motorola phones are horrible; everyone knows that. Why on earth did Apple team up with an inferior phone maker? Nokia makes better phones, hands down. They have the same mindset as Apple. It seemed natural that they would've teamed up together. Maybe this image is an oman of future products to come.

Nokia 7380

I don't know if these are available in America, but we have this gorgeous Nokia 7380 cellphone (we call this a GSM, if you'd ever hear that, now you know)
It really has a nice design, combining apple-style simplicity and originality with a nice ecletic theme and soft materials. It even has some sort of clickwheel
http://www.europe.nokia.com/nokia/0,,82378,00.html

It already supports apple iTools (don't really know what that is) and has bluetooth, OTA, media player with AAC,...

It might be an inspiration if there was going to be a cellphone with iTunes/ Front row
I think the ad is fake, but the possibility still exists...

I would run to the store to buy one of these.

I happen to have some inside information from Nokia's side, and to tell you the truth Nokia and Apple have a pretty cold corporate relations. If Nokia was to release an iTunes phone, I'd be as surprised as if I heard Apple would be sold to Microsoft.

1. I am serious about not knowing anyone with a new nokia phone. I still see some onld ones, but maybe they are new with an old design.

2. I have never seen in person a nokia smartphone. only treo's and blackberrys. and i like the treo and palm os alot. sad they made a windows version. thats like apple putting windows on their MB's(ibooks) and calling it MBw, with the mac version coming out in a few months.

3. I thought i heard somewhere that apple was droping motorola. maybe i am wrong, but that was my basis for my coment on switching.

I wish apple would make an iPhone that works with verizon. the only way i could get it:(

Odd, my Nokia N-Gage has Bluetooth, and syncs through iSync as well as any other device. Sony-Ericsson may have been the first company to support syncing over Bluetooth with iSync; but Nokia is just as compatible.

Just look at Apple's iSync Compatibility page. You see that all Nokia 'series 60 smartphones' (which is all of them on the list,) support Bluetooth syncing of Address Book, add book pictures, Calendar, and To Do items. Only SE's high end P-series phones support all of that.

Except SonyEricsson is (surprise) half owned by Sony, who has their own music agenda. That's why a SE phone is marketed as a 'Walkman'.

I'm not saying SE phones are bad, I happen to have had access to an N-Gage for free, otherwise I would have bought an SE phone; just that Nokia isn't as bad as you think they are.

That's not too big a deal. I don't know anyone with a Blackberry, or a Treo, or a Motorola 'smartphone'. I know plenty of people with non-smartphones (Motorola RAZR, SE 68i, other 'plain cellphones',) but none who have anything that would qualify as a 'smartphone', other than my own Nokia N-Gage.

That's probably because Nokia makes 'smartphones' that look like normal phones, not half-PDA monstrosities. They have a whole line of phones that run Symbian Series 60, and are true 'smartphones'. Treos are PDAs with a cell phone crammed in. Blackberries are portable IM devices with a cell phone crammed in. Nokia's smartphones are more of a cell phone with good PDA features added.

I noticed a distinct lack of Nokia phones in the US and Canada, lots of Motos and SE's and a bunch of those "smartphones" I hear so much about. Everywhere else I have been however has shown that Nokia phones are by far the most popular.

There is a huge difference in quality between Nokia and SE/Moto and I'm not talking from the outside. Moto may make rather good looking phones but they do not last... so I'd be real pleased to see Nokia & Apple gettin back closer together and marketing some cool well built products together :D

I would really like to see Apple release iTunes for Series 60, as well as that lovely looking Apple theme for Series 60. Firstly because then I'd be able to have iTunes on a phone as I need a Series 60 phone to run the magnification software I use to see the screen and secondly because while I don't use my phone much for listening to music I do occasionally and I'd like an iTunes app rather than the useless system Nokia currently includes. Also, with a bit of luck this would mean that iSync would FINALLY work with the phones that my magnification software supports, and that I will soon be able to sync my iCal, Mail, iTunes and more to my Nokia N70 via bluetooth :D

Of course, Apple could release their own phone, and include Universal Access in the operating system - that would be very, very nice!

I'm used to Nokia's phones being too bulky/oldschool for me but recently Nokia seems to be making some pretty nice phones, I wouldnt mind seeing Apple help out on a Nokia phone for some software, since they did help out with Safari (IIRC?), so why not go all the way and bring iTunes as well?

who cares...

it's hideous. At the present there are NO itunes compatible phones that are attractive. Designers, just because something is iTunes compatible doesn't mean it has to be ugly...

yes i know about the new Razr one ;)

So Nokia have supposedly forgotten how to spell 'calendar', and can't work out how to set leading correctly on Illustrator (I mean, there needs to be a good bit more space between 'iTunes + Nokia' and 'New: the first...').

And what's 'Frontrow'? Apple call it Front Row.

Not one of the more convincing fakes out there.

um, euro spelling? (or an idiot that can't spell made a really nice looking fake! lol) and I can buy it coming out over seas but not in the us, unless cingular carries the phone, forget it. and i think cingular will drop the itunes phones soon anyway. everyone is launching their own music servcies.
