May I refer you to the article above that has a paragraph on that topic? 😂
May I refer you to article last week on Macrumors whereby:

When I asked Drance about parents using ‌AirTags‌ to track their small children (such as during an outing at an amusement park) or pets (we know you’re up to something shady, Fluffy) she was quick to stress that the company designed the AirTag to track items, not people or pets. If parents would like to safely track their young children, she suggests an Apple Watch with ‌Family Setup‌ might be a better choice.

That’s a good idea. Better still, this idea requires no AirTag and older, just add a cheap tag to the collar with this message and phone number. Or even better, keep him/her on the lead also.

One of my dogs is a freaking escape artist and runs out the door any chance she gets. I’d like to Tag her because if there is any chance it will help, I’ll take it!

Headline should read “Nomad announces they bought a **** ton of cheap Chinese plastic AirTags holders and charging users a 1000% markup.”

It might be handy for pets in more urban areas, but if one of our ten dogs got loose, the odds of them getting near a device that would locate them are pretty slim.

Buy an Apple Watch with Cellular and GPS and attach it to your dog’s collar. I am only half joking about this as there are dog trackers that are basically the same setup and they are pretty expensive and require a monthly fee. And since my area is hilly and cell tower poor they don’t work very well either. Probably not Apple Watch expensive.

Yeah, my dogs wrestle each other and have torn off each others' regular tags. I want a collar with an AirTag pocket, too. I've seen two brands-- the one that was posted here (pretty but so expensive) and another that was less expensive (still like 50 bucks) but very boring in color choice.
What about something like this?

Then Let’s look again at who makes it. Oh, a third party. Guess they don’t care.

What you are referring to was covered in the article we are discussing.

I agree, but it only works if the pet is around someone within the Find My range, it doesn't work like a gps-tracker. So you can't really track your pet, right?
Well yes you can. Your pet is likely to come in range of found or walking around,..just like a "missing" bike or any other item of value. There are already dog collars wirh airtag holders available.
