using my daily driver iPhone 4s on it too, seems stable enough for me. i'm holding it out till i get the iPhone 6 and it was slowly becoming crap before this anyway, so i just need to be contactable and i'll be happy

Non-developers run the beta releases and then spend all kinds of time on these forums crying like little babies because some things don't work. They seem to have zero clue what the word "beta" means and why Apple tells even developers that they should not install the beta versions on their personal phones.

This is exactly the reason these versions aren't available to the general public. They don't seem to understand that with a beta, there will be bugs. There will be features that don't work right. There will be apps that don't work with it. There will be crashes. This is all part of beta software.

running it right now on my daily driver which is an 5S and its extremely stable for a first beta, much better then what ios 7 was and i even remember how bad ios 6 was...

I usually wait until Final release. I feel like if I use the betas then when time comes for the new release it's not exciting anymore. Plus now with iPhone 6 + iOS 8, I have 2 things to look forward to!

Non dev here, running iOS8 beta 1 on my iPhone 5c, so far it's more stable than I anticipated, and yes the shift/update trick from iOS 7 beta still works to install this as a non dev.

As a dev who used it for a day, I wouldn't recommend it.

Issues I encountered:
- Random lag/freezing when opening certain apps
- Slow/laggy typing sometimes
- Pebble watch not receiving notifications
- Touch ID turning off after restart and forgetting my fingerprints, requiring re-entry
- Camera Roll gone (not sure if bug or feature yet)
- Some push notifications not coming through (such as Facebook badges)

I reported some bugs. I will wait for beta 2 and try again, but for now I'm back to 7.1.1 :D

I have a slot with a developer and have been invited to try this. I think not. I do need one or three apps on my phone to keep working and until its confirmed that they do, I'll be holding off. If they continue to not work with iOS8 I may well hold of permanently on this phone (4S). I will be upgrading when the 6 comes out but I'll worry about that, then.

There is always a lot of excitement when beta 1 hits for a new version of iOS. The advice is always the same; Don't run on your daily driver/Non-development phone.

That being said, would you run beta 1 on your personal/daily use iPhone if it were an open and free beta?

Sure! I would .. Only of it was free! Just as they did it with Mac.. I would ..

Any non developers installed iOS 8? Does it allow you to install or just tell you that you aren't registered?

I'm a non developer using it on my daily driver iphone 5s, and on my ipad mini. It is wayyy more stable than the initial release of ios 7. Are there some bugs to be worked out, of course. Most of my apps still function 100% with the exception of tweetbot 3. My os hasn't crashed on either device. It is definitely stable enough for me to use daily. I like playing with the new features and watching the operating system mature through the betas, but know that I'll lose some reliability to be able to do so.

To answer your questions, I read that Apple put the brakes on unauthorized installs this year. The last two years I have registered my udid (kind of a shared dev account) with a company. A search will return the companies offering the service. That way you are covered and know your udid is actually registered.

Will have to give it a miss. Got burned last year when ios7 beta screwed up some of my apps (even after restoring), and it would be many months until mailbox could fix it. The new features are likely fun to play around with, but at the end of the day, what I need is a reliable phone to serve as my daily driver.

I'm using it on my daily driver, too. It's buggy (as it should be, being a beta), but not unusable. I like testing this new shiz.

I ended up activating my UDID, dunno how stupid an idea it was to be honest, I'm sure no one can do anything with my UDID, but still, enjoying iOS 8 so far

I was really tempted and very excited about doing this after having someone offer UDID slots on the cheap.

However, looking at the app incompatibility list on Macrumors for iOS8b1, I've really been put off installing it. Gonna have to give it a miss sadly as I've only got one iPhone and that's my daily driver :(

Cant physically run it because I have an iPhone 4.

And even if I had a compatible device I would be tempted but wouldn't. Its more exciting to get the finished release later.

As for OS X Yosemite, I would very much like to try it out. 2013 MBA is going to run perfectly for it. I think Apple is even encouraging people to try out/help test it.

I'm not a developer but I have added my UDID of my iPad to the program and am quite enjoying it, actually. Very solid beta 1

I have a developer account. I played with a 5S that had beta 1 installed yesterday. Seemed pretty good - surprising I had a hard time telling the difference visually between 7.1.1 and 8 beta 1.

I may wait until beta 2 before installing it on my iDevices.

I did however install Yosemite on to my 11" MacBook Air. No crashes and all the apps I've tested thus far still work. The UI still needs polish though (that's why it's a beta, yes). For example, some buttons in the Finder and Safari (like the box/arrow "share" button) are hard to differentiate between active (white with black icon) versus inactive (white with grey icon).
