That article was an oddity, actually. If we had to do it over again, it would have been a normal article.

Besides the normal front page articles -- which is the bulk of what we publish -- we sometimes publish comment-less articles that are meant for reference or social media. Prime example would be a very basic How-To that we don't feel is "front page worthy" but is nice to have as a reference for people searching or for us to refer back to. Sometimes we also have other articles which highlight older topics in different ways, for social media.

As I said this one is an oddity.

I totally understand the goal and point of these types of articles, but I wish they actually wouldn't hit the front page. They all seem to, including one today.

Most of them don't.

There are articles that never hit the front page. The ones that do, the editor has determined it is of enough interest to have it posted in the main feed. The bar is a little lower right after product launch.

For example, we published some reasonably basic AirTag how to's on the front page right after launch, because it was pretty new.

Well, thanks. I feared there was some obvious reason why comments were turned off. Glad it was an intelligent question. It was one of those articles where I was interested where the comments would go. Apple's [presumed] predilection for pastels on multiple Mac lines is intriguing.
