Noob Mac Questions

Hey guys, my roomate suggested I could re-install Mac OS X in order to get the computer to return to the factory settings. That way when I start it up again, I'd be able to change the name of the home icon. I haven't installed any software on my computer yet so I wouldn't be losing anything.

I've never re-formatted/re-installed the operating system of any of my computers before, so I'm a little hesitant to do it just to change the name of my home icon. Do you guys think this is a "dumb" idea? How long does a complete re-install generally take?

about 30 min to an hour for the install depending on if you know what you are doing or not.

Then you could spend hours more setting all of your stuff back up and reinstalling programs, music, movies, photos, etc. Really just depends on how much stuff you have.

goodness gracious. what does this home icon say that has got you in such a bind? here is a link to apple's support page. if it were me, i would just leave it alone
