I went to Crabtree last night (got there about 20 minutes before closing).
I was buying some cables and asked the guy if I could also get a device only 6+.
There was no one in line outside and only about 5-6 people going through the phone setup and checkout process (basically the store was pretty empty even compared to a non "iPhone just came out recently" day).
The guy says that if I order online for personal pickup, then I can do that. I told him you can't do online reservations if you're paying full retail and don't want a contract. He said "You can't?"
I said I don't want a contract, just to pay full price for the device. Then he goes on about how they give out reservation cards to people in line during the day and that they stopped handing out the cards five hours ago because there were so many people.
"But there's no one waiting now", I said. "I just want to purchase a phone full price".
Nope, sorry. Wouldn't do it. He said I could come back tomorrow morning at 9Am when they hand out the reservation cards and then come back anytime during the day to get it (and also wait in line).
"But I'm here now and there's no one waiting", I told him. It's not like I was cutting in line and trying to weasel the system. There's no one else waiting for a phone and there is stock of the one I want.
Nope. No dice. Infuriating. And to top it off, this guy was the manager.
