One of the more bizarre features of this tablet is the comprehensive logging feature, which, presumably can be used by secret police or informants to confirm counter revolutionary activity.

A second app called “Trace Viewer” works with Red Flag and allows users to browse through the history recorded by Red Flag. The screenshots can be seen along with details of everything the user has been doing. This app ensures that none of this data can be manually deleted and allows the records to be exported and reviewed at a later point.

Trace Viewer is clearly provided to show users that everything they do is recorded and to remind them that anything done on the tablet can be found out by the government, said Grunow.

Trust the computer. The computer is your friend.

It's unlikely that North Korea, which doesn't even respond to international courts, will listen to any of Apple's trademark infringement litigation.

At least the NK's have a gutsy attitude, have to give them that.

Good luck getting tech support and service on that. :D Does this represent state of the art in North Korea? If so, that's pretty sad.

Why is the headline in the add written as IPad and the text iPad?
Koreans are quite insensitive to capitalization in English, as the Korean syllabary (or alphabet, if you want to go that way) doesn't have any sense of capital or lowercase. The whole iPad/IPad/Ipad thing is pretty common in South Korea as well.

And if you're the poor fool who points out something so trivial as a capitalization error in Korea, you'll be seen as unnecessarily nitpicky.

If North Koreans don't have internet access... how do they know that iPad is a popular term for tablet...?
It's not the laypersons that know about Apple and iPads: It's the leaders. And they have to be hip with the squares and show everyone that they're still relevant. Even if it means not feeding 1000 families with the R&D costs.

I would say this is the art on North Korea, but they also have an OS that rips the UI from Apple.

Apple should really sue. All three North Koreans you would have bought an iPad will buy this device instead. The loss of revenue...

Can't North Korea pretty much do whatever they want because they don't follow international law anyway? Apple could go after them wherever it's sold if they have a trademark in that country, but not in North Korea itself. Is it sold in China or something? Can't think of any other trade partner, and people within the country could never afford something like this.

But nobody in China would buy this. Putting an iPad sticker on it won't help.

I am strangely fascinated by that country. I would like to be literally invisible and roam their streets unsupervised to get a real impression of whats going on there ^^
Until you get hungy and start looking for a place to eat.

I don't think anything will come of this as Apple likely haven't registered 'iPad' as a trademark in North Korea.

not be allowed to register it might be true. I would imagine that a government like NK would love to refuse to approve a registration by a US company given all the sanctions against trade etc with the country.

Hmm, I wanna try Red Star Linux. Maybe its desktop interface will be better than the crappy new Ubuntu Unity or whatever it's called desktop.

Those horrible slow small tablets with keyboards that connect via a USB cable and case used to be all the rage on eBay about 5 years ago. Glad to see NK is catching up in the technology department.

Here's something similar.

That one actually looks kinda sleek.

I want to try making a country that straight up has Mario as the flag. What's Nintendo going to do about it?

North Korea is like a real life Panem, accept with no Capitol. It's hard to believe some of the things you hear about it.

If there is money to be made in North Korea Tim Cook will be there in a flash conveniently ignoring any human rights issues etc....

I say good on the North Koreans, sounds like a solid PR iPad ;)

Tim Cook needs to travel to NK immediately so there can be a "temporary" interim leadership in Apple.
