Just received a devastating response from Netcom customer support:
Hei, maksprisen på 20 kroner pr dag gjelder dessverre ikke for de nye iTalk prisplanene.
No NOK 20 per day cap...which means going over the ridiculous low data limit(s) may indeed be extremely costly...

That was the final blow. I don't see myself buying off my old contract to get an iPhone now, so I'm gonna wait until January, and see if Netcom have come to their senses by then.

iPhone day countdown widget removed.

Ok, now I know we're being screwed...

Telia just opened up to allow iPhone 3G buyers to choose among (most of) their plans with the iPhone and added free data as an extra service at just SEK 199 (≈ NOK 169) per month: Telia: iPhone 3G med samtliga mobilabonnemang för privatkunder

Ok, so the iPhones will be a bit more expensive (depending on the plan and contract length, 18 or 24 months), but now Netcom's plans seem even more ridiculous...:mad::mad:

<insert assorted swear words here>

Now, I usually lagh at online petitions, but I just signed my second ever** here: http://fri-iphone.org/

** First one was to "save" Farscape, if I remember correctly...

The small at NOK 399 (US$ 79) pr month includes 100 minutes of calls, 100 SMS and (ridiciously low) 100MB of data (free Wifi doesn't even remotely make up for that low cap).

The medium at NOK 699 (US$ 138) per month with 250/250/250 or the large at a whooping NOK 1099 (US$217) per month at 1000/1000/1000 is just insane.

What is the point of launching a product that is not affordable by "most" people?

Well, affordable and affordable... even if 399 is almost 3 times my current monthly phone bill, it's not out of reach for most people, and I'd gladly pay that for a plan with free data (h***, I'd even pay for my calls and SMSs on top of that if need be). :(

And if you compare it to the US prices (which people complain about), English, Dutch or even Swedish (which should be comparable) we're being royally screwed...

Hmm... there's been an addition to the iPhone FAQ at Netcom.no: "For å sikre at dine eventuelle datatrafikk kostnader ikke løper fullstendig ut av kontroll har vi satt en maksimal pris for data, utover inkludert forbruk på kr 990,- per måned."

Ok, so a cap at NOK 990,- per month for data is not quite as good as, let's say the Swedish SEK 199,- (NOK 169,-), but it's a start...and an insurance against totally insane** bills...

Now, make the deal a bit better, Netcom, and I just might bite...after all... :)

** I calculated earlier that 20 MB per day, with the iTalk small plan, where you use your cap the first 5 days, would be billed 26 x 200 + 399 = NOK 8199,- (≈ US$1612) for that month, and that scared the s*** out of me, now that bill will only be NOK 1389,- (≈ US$273), and that's much more managable... :)

Can the plans be mixed and matched. Like say I want the middle plan with 250 minutes plus 250 SMS but want the 1000 MB of data, is that possible?

Or can unlimited data be added to any of the plans?

No, I'm afraid not! At least not yet...
Or can unlimited data be added to any of the plans?
No, not really...

They've kind of added unlimited data today...kind of... (max 990,- per month, <edit>that's 990,- on top of the 399/699/1099 of your chosen plan, that is</edit>)

Netcom has caved in!!!

Free data plan at NOK 499,- (US$ 97) with no free minutes and NOK 1900,- (US$372) added to iPhone price:

_Skjermbilde 1.jpg

No included minutes (0,45 per minute and a hefty start prive) or SMSs (0,59 per SMS), and the 8GB/16GB iPhone is NOK 3.290/4.190 (US$ 645/822).

Still a much, much worse deal than the Swedes and whiny Americans (;)) (not to mention UK or Dutch prices), but considering Norwegian prices this is actually not that bad...

I'm getting an iPhone, after all...
...if I can get my hands on one...

So, now we can start nagging about the price, instead... :p

Fri i norden också... ?!?

Come on bloody TeliaSonera Finland Wake up...

Umh, I think our options are better. You can fully customize your own plan if you pay the phone at once, with unlimited data and all. (even though it's far more expensive than with other providers)

Edit: Okay, I just checked what those numbers mean in euros and I have to say; our options are WAY, WAY BETTER!

Must recheck. Sonera did not seem to want to admit anything like that when I called our local sales contact. I know there was unlimied homerun but that's not the same. Oh well, a little job for tomorrow. Now waiting for the good lady to come home :)

Here, and look at the option Minun Sonera. Oh, and it was there from the start.

Ikke data, kun Homerun wifi-aksess... men det er nå også noe... ;)

Everybody got better prices than us... but - at least - now we have a free data plan... that's more than we had before the weekend... :)

This is actually kinda great... not compared to other countries of course, but compared to how it was before.

The price per MB for going over the capped plans has also dropped from 10kr to 5kr per MB and the max additional cost for data is limited to kr 990/690/190 for the three original plans. Sweet.

Edit: However I don't get why we have to pay kr 1900 more for the phone itself and kr 3100 more total for the first year with the free data option. Since the new plan has 0 included minutes and SMS it's the only one that's almost guaranteed to give them more income than the minimum price for one year.

With the price per MB being halved and the kr 990 cap, I might go for the iTalk small now.

He-he...

I was just thinking this myself earlier today... take those 3000 you "save" and put them towards extra data whenever 100 MB aren't enough a month...

Of course, if the whole 3000 is blown in the first three months - ant that is a distinct possibility - then I know I'd made the wrong choice... ;)

The list of stores that will sell the iPhone Friday is released (digi):

  • Oslo: Telebutikken Oslo City
  • Bergen: Telebutikken Galleriet
  • Drammen: Telebutikken Magasinet
  • Skien: Telebutikken Herkules
  • Trondheim: Telebutikken Trondheim Torg
  • Trondheim: Telebutikken Solsiden
  • Tønsberg: Telebutikken Farmanstredet
  • Tromsø: Telebutikken Nerstranda

  • Kristiansand: Telebutikken Sørlandssenteret

  • Sandnes/Stavanger: Telebutikken Kvadrat

Telebutikken Byporten opens at 06:00, while the rest opens "at their usual time" (opening times at idg.no).

Happy hunting!

Funny thing: I even went in and asked which of the four Telebuttikken shops in Bergen that would sell the iPhone come Friday at Telebutikken Galleriet yesterday and they just smiled and said they couldn't say anything...and told me to wait for an announcement in the media... cheeky bastids... :D

anyone know where I can get an iPhone in Norway? I just moved here from the US and am lost without an iphone.

netcom usage not the same as iPhone usage meter

anyone else having a discrepancy between the billed usage and the. Sent/received usage meter on the phone? It's never been reset so it should have been the same since it's my first month. Instead my iPhone tells me I've used 30mb less than my usage according to Mine Sider on Netcom.

I would have expected the iPhone usage to show a higher amount due to update delays, not the other way around.

See the list above that Mitthrawnuruodo posted. You can also order it at netcom.no.

Do you guys know how often the store in Bergen restocks? I was in there the other day and the guy wasn't very helpful, spoke to the netcom.no sales support and they restock on Wednesdays, I'm wondering if it is the same for the stores.

I'd rather go into a store and pick one up but will order on Wednesday if need be, the online store only has 16gb in white at the moment.

My cousin got a black 8GB this Wednesday down at Galleriet.

They should get new ones every Wednesday, but - as mentioned earlier in this thread - the guys at Telebutikken Galleriet aren't very helpful when asked about these kinds of questions... ;)

You'll probably have to be there quite early, though...to get the one you want...

Any of my fellow norwegian netcom users have visual voice mail? I have been wondering about this since I got the iPhone, if it is just not offered through netcom or it is something I need to ad on extra?

Also a side note Telebutikken Bystasjonen in Bergen now sells the iPhone, they seemed much more willing to help as well then the people at Galleriet if an issue should arise.

No, not seen it, yet...

I asked Netcom about it back in July, and the answer then was:

Netcom customer service said:
Denne tjenesten er per idag ikke tilgjengelig. Det jobbes med saken men per idag har vi dessverre ikke noen dato for når tjenesten blir tilgjengelig

Translated: This service is not available as of this date. It's being worked on, but as of now we're sorry to say we have no date for which the service should be available.

Helpful...

Maybe time for a follow up mail soon...?

U-oh... it's getting worse...

I sent a follow up question to Netcom this weekend, asking if and when Visual voicemail would be available. The answer:

Netcom customer service said:
Hei, det er ikke tatt noen avgjørelse om vi skal tilby visual voicemail eller ikke. En avgjørelse vil komme i løpet av 4 kvartal.
Translated: Hi, it's not decided if we're going to offer visual voicemail or not. A decision will me made some time within the 4th quarter.

Yeah...love the sound of that...
