Thin mints and shortbread FTW.

I only buy like a box a year cause I don't really care for cookies other than homemade, but those a nice annual treat.

I'm proud to be un-American then.;) I usually ask the girls if they're being fairly compensated for their time and effort in pushing over priced cookies. The usual answer is they get nothing! A bunch of rich bastards exploiting our youths. Fye on it, ah fye!, I say. I refuse to buy Girl Scout Cookies. I slip them a buck. I make sure they understand that buck is for THEM not their greedy taskmasters.

I'm sorry and nothing personal Mousse, but this post made me laugh. Relax, it's a fundraiser for the organization.

All of the proceeds—every penny—from a local council's cookie activities remains in the area where the cookies are sold. This revenue is used to benefit girls, some of it directly by remaining in the Girl Scout troop/group treasury and some of it indirectly by subsidizing the cost of providing the Girl Scout program in the local area.

"Cookie revenue" helps local councils:

Recruit and train volunteer leaders for each troop/group.
Provide the financial assistance needed to make Girl Scouting available for all girls.
Improve and maintain camp and other activity sites.
Keep event/camp fees for all members to a minimum.
Sponsor special events and projects.
Each local council sets the price per box, based on its needs and its knowledge of its local market. The price per box, therefore, may vary from one location to another and from one year to the next. Today's prices reflect both the current cost of purchasing cookies from a licensed baker and the realities of providing Girl Scout activities in an ever-changing economic environment.

Just like every other fundraiser kids are involved in, Boy Scouts, School, Church, etc., it provides a learning opportunity for the children involved. The hope is that the parents or adult leaders involved do it in a way that maximizes the education for the participants.

Not buying doesn't make you look cheap. When I do say no, I usually tell them I already bought some, which is the truth. I currently have about 6 boxes of Girl Scout cookies at home. Love the Thin Mints.:D

Or, as I call them, Thin Crack. Those things are addictive. Oddly, I haven't bought any from actual Girl Scouts in years. I usually buy them from their parents at work.

I never answer the door for anyone unless I know them. No point in coming to my dwelling for any other reason.

Do many strangers knock on your door? I would assume the "Hey kids, get off of my lawn" sign would preclude that.

+1.. My two favorites also....... Thin Mints in ice cream rock too!

You could always answer the door, well naked! Don't know how that would go over with the law but they wouldn't come back! :D

Another +1 for Thin Mints and Samoas.

Thin Mints straight out of the freezer's the way to do it. As far as not buying goes, it's a non-issue. I'm powerless to resist.

Not buying girl scout cookies dosen't make one look cheap, it makes one look healthy!

Though I could not say how to avoid buying them as I always buy them. Now that I am aware that they are on sale I'll head to the store to pick up 10 or 15 boxes, as they never sell door to door here only in front of grocery stores. These are the only manufactured cookies I'll buy otherwise I just bake my own cookies.

Buying them makes you look like a pedophile, though. I don't know about you, but I would rather look cheap than look like a pedophile.

Little girls knocking on my door. Who wouldn't want that.

That would be great, but there are no door-to-door sales-girls around my parts. I have yet to see any at the regular ambush points, either. Probably because of all the damn snow.

Order one of these lovely T-shirts...I'm pretty sure the girls won't be back next year:

What kind of weirdo would want to scare them away? I always buy extra boxes from girls with pigtails or freckles. What can I say, I'm a sucker! :D

It's your choice. If you're not interested, you're not interested. Anyone who is expecting to sell also needs to be ready for a rejection. Some of those cookies do taste pretty good though. :)

I'll take ten boxes.

my rule of thumb is: if i can afford it, why bother with my "i never do this or that ..."-rules.

nothing against a good set of principles as long as you check them every now and then. just like groucho marx is supposed to have said: "Those are my principles, and if you don't like them... well, I have others."

i hardly ever open the door to anyone i don´t know either but that´s cause i am living on the 4th floor and the electronic opener is broken ;-)
