I have had similar issues in two separate instances.

1) if the light on your adapter won't turn on, you have a bad magsafe and should go to Apple for a new one. This fixed my issue the first time.
2) If you have a MacBook Pro, a MacBook magsafe may run your computer, but it will not charge your computer. Also, someone else mentioned the current drain on the outlet... I agree with this sentiment: try changing outlets and see if the issue persists.

Hmm...I kinda have to disagree with you on both points.

1) I got my original charger replaced a week ago with a retail one right of the shelf, not one from the back room or whatever. Still have the problem with the light not turning on...it worked perfect for the first couple days, but now, the problem is actually worse than it was with the original charger.

2) I have tried about 10 different outlets throughout out house, and also a couple at the coffee shop next to my work, still doesn't work.

It has to be something wrong with the logic board. I am going to an Authorized Service Provider tomorrow...have them check it out.

Okay this is probably going to sound crazy, but here is what I noticed.

I've been having the same issue with the aluminum macbook where it would show the "not charging" message in the dock. I work as an IT technician and usually keep my mac with me, however until I get home it stays in my trunk, and with the cold weather lately the computer itself turns into what feels like an ice cube. Anyway my point is if I plug the computer in immediately while it is still quite cold I receive the "not charging message", however once it gets back to room temperature it starts charging with no issues.

I believe that's a built-in safety, as charging a very cold battery is bad for it.

ohh this happens to me all the time! the stupid charger and computer don't know what its doing with it self when it comes to charging up!

the chargers plugged in and switched, computers not at 100% charge and it will just stop charging all together.

or the stupid light indicator will go off/red/green at the wrong times.

then again i have to admit once i was wondering why my computer wouldn't stay on whenever i took the charger out, after charging it for a good while.....

forgot to put the battery in the computer to start with!

i know i know i'm a complete idiot :D

Alright, I actually went to the Apple Store today, and they said in my case, it is a logic board problem. Problem was though, they did not have logic boards in stock, so they ordered me one and it'll take a week to get it in, so in a week I have to go back to the Apple Store and get it fixed...hopefully that will fix everything...and hopefully they do not ruin my computer in the process...this is my first time ever having someone else do repairs on my computer (always has been me or my dad...and this is my first mac too), so I'm just hoping everything goes right.
