Not getting updates on my thread

So I am used to the idea if someone replies to my threads (auto being watched) I get a notification that there are new replies. Now I noticed one thread I started has an ongoing conersation but I didn't get the notices on the bell icon. Is this a bug or I am doing something wrong? or are the notifications set to not be sent any more after sometime?

Is it in your Watched list?

If you get a notification, and don't read it. I think maybe it doesn't send more notifications, to avoid being noisy.

I checked the Xenforo (our forums use Xenforo's software) forums and it looks like it's intended to stop notifications when you stop opening them because of disinterest.

I was recently asked by a member to explain the forum watch options , ie notifications for new threads vs new messages. To be honest I wasn't quite sure. I have always just ticked new threads. This is what I assumed: Watch forum New Threads: You will get an alert/email for a new thread...

this should be fixed by adding a "mute" or "unwatch" button. but so long as I am watching I should still get the notifications imo
